Did the children sing their own parts?
The children are credited as performers on the title song recording, but that does not establish that every child’s vocal line in the film was sung solely by the actor onscreen. The Library of Congress essay says background singers were used to fill out the children’s voices.
Why do soundtrack credits list several singers?
Credits can differ by song and by recording. For example, the soundtrack recording of “Maria” lists several singers, including Nixon and Wood. That track credit does not assign every line in the song to one person, nor does an album credit by itself provide a complete vocal log for the film.

Was Marni Nixon also onscreen?
Yes. Nixon also appears in the film as Sister Sophia, a separate acting role from her credit as Plummer’s singing voice.
