As she put it to Vanity Fair, “I’m Mickey Hargitay’s daughter—that is not a lie.” She described My Mom Jayne in part as a love letter to Mickey.
How did she learn about Sardelli?
Hargitay said she was 25 when a contact connected to her mother’s fan club showed her a photograph and raised the possibility that Sardelli was her biological father. The revelation shook her sense of identity. In a Los Angeles Times interview published June 27, 2025, she recalled: “It felt like the melting of my identity.”

She said she confronted Mickey, who denied the claim. Hargitay later chose not to raise the subject with him again. She has described loyalty to Mickey as a significant part of how she responded.
What was her relationship with Sardelli?
Hargitay said she met Sardelli at one of his performances when she was 30. Over time, she developed a relationship with him and his daughters. Her account also places the family history in the context of Mansfield’s relationship with Sardelli while separated from Mickey, followed by Mansfield’s reconciliation with Mickey before Mariska’s birth in 1964.

The film’s premiere at Cannes on May 17, 2025, and its HBO/Max release on June 27, 2025, were reported by Vanity Fair and the Los Angeles Times. Those reports establish its 2025 release, not its current streaming availability.

For Hargitay, telling the story did not erase Mickey’s role. Her comments hold both parts together: she named Sardelli as her biological father while affirming that Mickey was her father and the person who raised her.
