Public reporting cited here chiefly records his childhood and his mother’s account, not his present-day health or private life.
Who is Evan Joseph Asher?
ABC News reported on February 12, 2009, that McCarthy gave birth to Evan in May 2002 while she was married to director John Asher. The report also described her book, Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism, as an account of coping with her son’s autism diagnosis. It is a first-person window into McCarthy’s experience, not a clinical source. ABC News: “Jenny McCarthy’s Journey”.
What has McCarthy said about Evan’s diagnosis?
PBS’s introduction to a FRONTLINE interview says Evan was diagnosed with autism when he was 2½. In the interview, conducted January 8, 2010, McCarthy recounted seizures and described searching for an explanation. Those details are her recollection; the interview is not an independent medical record. PBS FRONTLINE interview transcript.
What has McCarthy said about vaccines?
In the PBS interview, McCarthy said she noticed changes after vaccination and expressed her belief that vaccines played a role. That is her account of the timing and her interpretation of it; an observed sequence does not by itself establish cause.

The CDC pages cited here use materially different language, so their dates and formulations matter. The CDC’s FAQ, dated November 5, 2024, says studies continue to show vaccines are not associated with autism spectrum disorder. Its “Autism and Vaccines” page, dated July 22, 2026, says the categorical statement “vaccines do not cause autism” is not evidence-based because studies have not ruled out a contribution from infant vaccines; it also reports that HHS launched a comprehensive assessment. These are distinct statements on separate pages, not a single unchanged formulation of agency guidance: CDC autism FAQ and CDC “Autism and Vaccines”.
