The relationship had a different reported status later. In 2020, Lovato said they were no longer in contact with the group in an account of a Harper’s Bazaar interview. In 2025, Lovato called Kesha “a really good friend to me over the years.” Lovato also said Kesha texted a recommendation to work with producer Zhone, a concrete example of her support. The dated comments establish that Lovato has used “best friends” language for the Jonas Brothers and has described Grande and Kesha as close friends in different years. They do not establish who Lovato currently considers their single closest friend. It is more accurate to treat these as accounts of meaningful friendships at particular times than as a present-day ranking.
