Nothing in the reporting on this episode shows that the White House or ABC canceled The View. What happened in July 2025 was a spokesperson’s hostile statement, sent to Entertainment Weekly, which said the ABC talk show could be “the next to be pulled off air.” That is a threat in tone, attributed to a named spokesperson. It is not an official order, and the coverage reviewed here does not show any action taken against the program.
What the statement said
TheWrap reported that White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers responded to Entertainment Weekly by calling co-host Joy Behar an “irrelevant loser” suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” The statement added that she should “self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.” The Daily Beast reported the same statement and the same attribution separately.

Two details shape how the line should be read. First, the wording comes from contemporaneous press reports. No official White House transcript of the response was found in the reporting reviewed, so the exact phrasing rests on those outlets. Second, the phrase describes a possible future outcome, not something that had already happened. The sentence is a rhetorical jab from a spokesperson, not a policy announcement.
What prompted the response
The exchange followed a segment on July 23, 2025, when The View‘s panel discussed President Donald Trump’s allegations about former President Barack Obama and the 2016 election. During that discussion, Behar criticized Trump, saying he appeared jealous of Obama. The White House statement was a reply to those remarks.

The ratings dispute
The statement also said the show had low ratings. The show’s representative disputed that to Entertainment Weekly and, as quoted by The Independent, cited a set of figures. The table separates who made each claim and what the reporting established about it.
| Claim | Who made it | Status in the reporting reviewed |
|---|---|---|
| The show had low ratings | White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, in the statement to Entertainment Weekly | Asserted only. Not independently verified. |
| The show ranked No. 1 among network daytime talk shows and news programs in households and total viewers for a fifth consecutive season | The show’s representative, as quoted by The Independent | Attributed to the representative. Not independently audited. |
| The show was up in total viewers and in women aged 18 to 49 compared with comparable weeks of the prior season | The show’s representative, as quoted by The Independent | Attributed to the representative. Not independently audited. |
The only specific audience figures in the coverage come from the show’s side. Readers should treat them as the program’s own account, not as verified ratings data.

Was The View canceled?
No source reviewed establishes a cancellation. The evidence has three parts, and each supports a narrower conclusion than the headline might suggest:
- The statement is about a possible future. It says the show could be “the next” to be pulled off the air. It does not report a decision already made.
- ABC’s schedule showed reruns. An ABC press release dated July 25, 2025 listed encore broadcasts for the following week. Encores show that repeats were scheduled that week. They do not show that the program had been canceled.
- No network statement links scheduling to the remarks. The coverage reviewed contains no ABC statement tying any scheduling decision to the controversy.
Where things stand now
Every source here dates from July 2025. They do not establish the show’s schedule, status, or distribution as of October 2026. Anyone checking today should look at ABC’s current programming listings rather than relying on the 2025 documents.

Political responses to media figures often use strong language about consequences. A few checks help separate rhetoric from a documented result:

- Who is speaking. A named spokesperson’s statement is different from a written policy, a regulatory filing, or a network announcement.
- Tense. Phrases such as “could be next” describe a possibility. Phrases such as “has been removed” describe an event, and should be backed by a dated network or agency record.
- Source of numbers. Ratings claims need an attributed source. Check whether the figure comes from a measurement service, the network, or a representative of the show.
- Follow-up from the network. A schedule change usually appears in a network listing or press release. If none is found, the threat has not been shown to produce an action.
Applied to this case, the statement is a documented threat from a named spokesperson, the ratings figures are the show’s own claims, and the schedule evidence is limited to July 2025 encores.
