How viewers streamed the Derby on Peacock
Peacock was NBCUniversal’s primary official streaming destination for the 2024 event. It was the clearest option for viewers who did not have a traditional cable or satellite subscription, although it should not be described as universally free. The applicable account, plan, sign-in, and regional requirements could vary.
During the original broadcast, the basic process was:
- Open Peacock on the web or in the app.
- Sign in or create an account.
- Search for “Kentucky Derby” or open the 150th Kentucky Derby event page.
- Select the live event when it was available.
- Test playback before coverage began, especially on the television or streaming device you planned to use.
Peacock promoted the Derby as a live event in its streaming guide. Today, the live event has ended. The event page may offer a replay, but catalog access, sign-in requirements, and geographic availability are not permanent.

Watching with cable, satellite, or a live-TV service
Viewers with access to a local NBC station could watch the 2024 broadcast on NBC. A local affiliate could be received through cable, satellite, a compatible live-TV bundle, or an antenna where reception was adequate.

Viewers could visit NBCSports.com or use the NBC Sports app, then sign in with credentials from a participating TV provider. This was an authenticated-TV option, not a guaranteed free stream. Access could depend on the provider, local market, device, and active digital rights.
An antenna was a useful fallback because it avoided streaming buffering and did not require a separate streaming account. It was not a universal solution: reception depended on location, signal strength, antenna placement, and whether a local NBC affiliate served the area. NBC provides a station locator for identifying local affiliates.

Spanish-language coverage
Spanish-language coverage was announced for Universo, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET, with streaming through Telemundo.com and the Telemundo app. This schedule was separate from NBC’s English-language broadcast, and the available presentation was not necessarily identical in length or format.
Universo was not included in every television package. Telemundo’s digital availability could also vary by market, platform, and location. The original announcement is available from Telemundo.

- Peacock: The official 150th Kentucky Derby page remains a possible replay destination. Access may require an account or plan and may change over time.
- YouTube: NBC Sports published a full-race replay. It is more narrowly useful if you want the race itself rather than the broader Derby-day program. YouTube availability can be removed or restricted.
A race replay may not include the pre-race buildup, undercard races, interviews, analysis, or post-race coverage that accompanied the original live presentation.
What to do if the official stream does not work
- Check the year. Search results may surface newer Kentucky Derby events. Confirm that the page identifies the 150th Kentucky Derby from May 4, 2024.
- Try the other official route. If Peacock playback fails, try the web version, restart the app, or use NBC television if available. If NBC Sports authentication fails, try NBCSports.com rather than only the app.
- Refresh authentication. Confirm that your TV provider carries the local NBC station and supports NBC Sports streaming. Re-enter the provider credentials or reset the provider password if necessary.
- Update and restart. Update the Peacock or NBC Sports app, sign out and back in, restart the device, and test the stream in a browser.
- Use the right replay. For the historical race, try the official Peacock page or NBC Sports’ YouTube upload rather than an old live-event link.
Do not rely on pirate streams, pop-up-heavy websites, or social-media links claiming to show the Derby. They may be unsafe, unauthorized, or simply point to a different year’s race. Streaming rights can also differ outside the United States, so a U.S. service may not work in another country.

Peacock was the best fit for cord-cutters seeking the official U.S. live stream and broader event presentation. Its disadvantages were account or plan requirements, possible device problems, changing replay rights, and geographic restrictions.

NBCSports.com or the NBC Sports app
This was the practical choice for viewers who already paid for an eligible television provider. It was less useful for someone without provider credentials and should not be assumed to offer the same historical replay access as the original live stream.
NBC over the air
An antenna could provide the local NBC broadcast without internet buffering or a streaming subscription, provided the viewer had adequate reception. It was not an internet stream and could not help viewers outside the relevant broadcast area.
NBC Sports’ YouTube replay
The official YouTube upload was potentially the simplest option for watching only the race. It was not live and may not include the full Derby-day broadcast.
For future Kentucky Derby coverage
The 2024 event’s original broadcast partnership does not make that stream current. NBC and Churchill Downs announced an extension that scheduled the Derby to remain on NBC and Peacock through 2032, but viewers should verify the exact coverage, plan requirements, local NBC availability, and prices for the specific future race.
For general NBC access, viewers may compare services such as YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo, DIRECTV Stream, and Sling TV. Their channel lineups, prices, promotions, sports fees, and local NBC availability vary by ZIP code and date, so none should be treated as a guaranteed 2024 Derby option without checking the applicable market.
