YouTube’s 2018 India year-end list was led by Dancefit Live’s choreography video for “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal”; “Bom Diggy Diggy” topped the separate music-video list. The rankings also featured film teasers, creator comedy and regional-language content. They were YouTube’s India-specific “Top Trending” selections—not a definitive count of every Indian view or a simple leaderboard of lifetime views.
What the 2018 rankings measure
YouTube published its India year-end review on December 6, 2018. It separated results into categories such as Top Trending Videos, Top Trending Music Videos, creators and viewed ads. Its description of trending rankings referred to signals including watch time, sharing, comments, likes and other audience engagement. The lists are therefore best read as YouTube’s year-end view of popular, engaging content in India, not as a census ranked solely by raw views.
The rankings below are for India and the 2018 year-end release. Contemporary coverage reproduced the lists; current view counts should not be substituted for the positions those videos held at the time. YouTube’s official announcement also discussed global trends separately, so a global hit such as Kylie Jenner’s “To Our Daughter” should not be mistaken for India’s top video.

This is the reported order of YouTube’s 2018 India Top Trending Videos list, not a universal raw-view ranking.

The top two were choreography videos rather than official film-song uploads. Film promotion was also prominent: “Sanju,” “2.0,” “Zero” and “Kaala” all made the ten. Amit Bhadana’s two entries show how creator-made comedy had become a major part of the same popular-video conversation. Contemporary reporting put “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal” at about 105 million views and the “Zero” teaser at about 101 million around the December 6 publication period; these are time-specific reported counts, not permanent totals. The Quint’s contemporaneous report gives that context.

YouTube’s separate music list shows the songs that shaped the year-end music ranking. It should not be merged with the general trending-video chart.

Bollywood releases were part of the mix, but Punjabi music was unmistakably visible: “Laung Laachi,” “Expert Jatt” and “Diamond” all ranked. Guru Randhawa appeared twice, while the list also included non-film and pop-oriented releases. These positions refer to YouTube’s year-end music-video category, not necessarily to the complete reach of a song across every upload, lyric video or user-made use.

Why dance videos mattered
The prominence of choreography points to a participatory side of YouTube viewing. People could watch a song, learn its steps and adapt it through dance or Zumba videos. YouTube’s own India review highlighted dance moves to “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal,” “Daru Badnaam” and “Bom Diggy Diggy.” The trend helps explain why choreography videos ranked alongside expensive film teasers: the platform was serving both promotion and practical imitation.

Amit Bhadana’s two trending entries reflected the growing reach of locally made creator entertainment. YouTube’s 2018 review said he gained about 11 million subscribers during that year, a figure reported for the year-end period rather than a current channel total. Contemporary coverage also placed Bhuvan Bam, known for BB Ki Vines, among India’s leading creators. Beebom’s account of the 2018 Rewind lists discusses creator and advertising categories.

The trends were not confined to Hindi and Bollywood. Punjabi and Haryanvi music and dance appeared in the rankings, as did a Tamil film teaser. Contemporary reporting also described the growing visibility of Tamil and other regional-language channels. That supports a conclusion of greater scale and visibility for local-language content, not a claim that regional languages overtook Hindi across all Indian viewing. YouTube’s official review also pointed to viewing beyond entertainment: Grandpa Kitchen’s chicken biryani recipe, dairy farming, magic, painting, beauty techniques and other learning-oriented material. The year’s picture was therefore not just songs and trailers; YouTube also functioned as a place to find instructions, skills and demonstrations.

Ads were a separate year-end category
YouTube’s Rewind included a Top Viewed Ads category, which should not be confused with either video ranking. Beebom reported Hyundai’s “20 Years of Brilliant Moments” as India’s most-viewed YouTube ad of 2018. That was an advertising-list result, not the most popular entertainment video overall.
What the year-end list says about Indian viewing
India’s 2018 selections brought together Bollywood promotion, Punjabi and Haryanvi music, dance tutorials, creator-led comedy, Tamil cinema and practical how-to videos. The clearest answer depends on which category is meant: “Teri Aakhya Ka Yo Kajal” led the general Top Trending Videos list, while “Bom Diggy Diggy” led the separate Top Trending Music Videos list. Both are year-end trending results, not proof of the highest cumulative Indian view totals across all of YouTube.
