Pokémon: The First Movie was officially available to watch on YouTube during a limited-time promotion that began July 4, 2025. The available evidence does not confirm that the video is still publicly playable in August 2026, so check the official Pokémon TV channel before planning a watch.
Which Pokémon movie was on YouTube?
The promotion featured Pokémon: The First Movie, the original animated film about Mewtwo and Mew, also known in English-language materials as Pokémon: The First Movie—Mewtwo Strikes Back. It was not the 2019 computer-animated remake, Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, or Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!.
The YouTube announcement concerned the Mewtwo feature. The available information does not establish whether that upload also included the theatrical short Pikachu’s Vacation, bonus material, or a Japanese-language audio track.
Was the upload official and legal?
Yes. The 2025 release was on the Pokémon TV YouTube channel, branded @OfficialPokémonTV. That official, limited-time upload was authorized; its existence does not make every search result or fan-uploaded copy legal.

- Check that the uploader is Pokémon TV, not an unrelated account.
- Be cautious of supposed full movies paired with suspicious links, forced downloads, or poor-quality copies.
Is it still available in 2026?
As of August 18, 2026, current public playback is unconfirmed. The 2025 announcement described the release as limited-time, and the channel page does not provide dependable evidence that the film remains in its catalogue. The 2025 availability was documented, but it should not be presented as a current guarantee.
For the historical schedule, the first film was set to appear July 4, 2025, at 12 p.m. PDT / 3 p.m. EDT / 7 p.m. UTC. The same Summer Watch Party scheduled Pokémon The Movie 2000 for August 1, 2025, and Pokémon 3: The Movie for September 5, 2025. Those dates describe the 2025 event, not ongoing availability. How to check and watch it
- Open the official Pokémon TV channel.
- Search within the channel for Pokémon: The First Movie or Mewtwo Strikes Back.
- Confirm the uploader is Pokémon TV and that the result is the full original feature, not a trailer, clip, fan upload, or the 2019 remake.
- Open the video and check whether playback starts in your location. If it plays without a rental or purchase prompt, it can be watched on YouTube without a separate paid subscription.
- Use the player’s settings or audio-track menu for available languages and the captions menu for subtitles.
If the video plays, audio and caption choices may still differ by location, device, or version. Do not rely on an old video link or language list as proof that a current listing has the same options.
What languages were reported for the 2025 upload?
The 2025 report listed 13 audio tracks and three subtitle options. These are historical options for that upload, not a promise about a later re-upload or current playback.

| Type | Options reported for the 2025 upload |

| Subtitles | English; Spanish (Latin America); Portuguese (Portugal) |
The announcement lists these audio tracks but does not establish that Japanese audio was included. The player’s actual menus, if the upload is still available, are the practical guide to current options. The 2025 report lists the tracks and subtitles.
Is the channel available everywhere?
No worldwide-access claim is warranted. A 2025 report described Pokémon TV’s availability across the Americas, Africa, Europe, Australia and Oceania, and much of Central and Western Asia, while listing restrictions in several Asian territories. The reported unavailable locations included India, Japan, Indonesia, mainland China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. These are reported 2025 restrictions, not a definitive statement of YouTube policy in 2026; distribution rights and platform access can change. Check from your own location rather than assuming a result that works elsewhere will play for you.

Mewtwo is a bio-engineered Pokémon created using DNA connected to Mew. After escaping from the laboratory, Mewtwo sets out to prove its superiority. Ash, Pikachu, and their friends become caught up in a confrontation involving cloned and naturally born Pokémon. The story explores identity, creation, free will, discrimination, and what it means to be alive. The 2025 report includes a synopsis of the film.
Quick Recap
What if you cannot find or play it?
- No result, or a private or removed video: The limited-time promotion may have ended, or the upload may no longer be public.
- A location-block message: Access may be restricted where you are. Look for licensed viewing options in your market rather than treating a YouTube search result as proof of local availability.
- A result for the wrong movie: Search for Pokémon: The First Movie or Mewtwo Strikes Back and confirm it is the original feature, not Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution.
- A language or caption is missing: The menus can vary across regions, devices, and versions; the 2025 list does not guarantee that a current listing has every track.
- A full movie appears on an unrelated channel: Visibility on YouTube alone does not verify authorization. Prefer the official Pokémon TV account.
