Rebecca Black is still making music. The singer who became famous at 13 when “Friday” went viral has since released a series of projects, developed a more self-directed creative career and moved toward dance-oriented pop. Her catalog shows activity into 2026, though the available information does not establish her newest release or current schedule.
How “Friday” made Rebecca Black famous
Black became widely known in 2011, when her song “Friday” spread rapidly online. The video was released on YouTube on February 10. Us Weekly’s 2025 account reports that it drew more than 30 million views in its first month and had reached 167 million views before a legal dispute with ARK Music Factory led to its temporary removal. The video returned in September 2011, according to the same account.

The attention brought intense mockery and online abuse while Black was still a minor. “Friday” became a durable piece of internet and pop culture, but its viral status often overshadowed the person behind it. The song’s reception is an important part of her story; it is not the whole story.
What she did after the viral moment
Black continued releasing music and built connections with listeners through YouTube vlogs and Q&As. A GRAMMY.com profile says she fired her then-manager in 2013 and used those videos to reach audiences beyond the “Friday” headline. The profile also recounts her coming out as queer in 2020 and notes that her 2021 EP included songs reflecting that identity.

Her releases trace a gradual shift from being known chiefly as a viral teen to making work with more control over its direction. Black has described the value of artistic independence in direct terms: “I think the sanctity of making art you love is always worth fighting for,” she told GRAMMY.com.

Black remains active in music. Her current Apple Music artist catalog shows releases and activity into 2026, so SALVATION is a significant recent project rather than a confirmed latest release. The catalog alone does not establish her precise current plans, touring schedule or personal circumstances.
Rank #3
The clearest change is in how her work is framed: she is no longer defined only by a song that went viral when she was 13. Her releases show an ongoing career shaped by her own creative choices, including the club-focused pop direction described in coverage of SALVATION.
