After Judge Judy ended, Petri Hawkins Byrd continued acting and eventually returned to courtroom television as a bailiff on Tribunal Justice, a series created by Judy Sheindlin. A July 2026 interview also described him traveling with his wife and taking acting work when it is available.
Byrd’s return to courtroom television
Byrd’s Judge Judy role ended with the program. He was not reported as joining Sheindlin’s immediate successor, Judy Justice, in the 2020 coverage. His later return to a Sheindlin-created courtroom show came on Tribunal Justice.
A November 21, 2024 report described Byrd as one of two bailiffs on Tribunal Justice, alongside Judges Patricia DiMango, Tanya Acker and Adam Levy. The courtroom has a different arrangement from the one he worked in for years: “With Judge Judy, it was just me and the boss for 25 years. Now, I have three judges and an extra bailiff in the courtroom,” Byrd said in the report. Read the 2024 report.
He continued acting after the show
Acting was among the paths Byrd discussed as Judge Judy was ending. In a 2020 interview, he said he was considering acting and other work. Later reporting describes him taking acting jobs, but the sources available here do not establish a complete or independently verified credits list.

In a podcast episode published July 31, 2026, Byrd said he takes acting gigs when they are available. He also spoke about traveling with his wife, including trips to Ghana and along the East Coast. That interview is a dated snapshot of his activities, not a comprehensive list of current productions. See the July 2026 podcast listing.
What he was considering as Judge Judy ended
In 2020, Byrd said he was developing an Instagram Live program called Bonding with Byrd with his wife, and described an idea for a mediation-focused show. He also said he would have been honored to work on Sheindlin’s next show, but at that point had not been told whether there was a place for him. These were plans and expectations he discussed at the time; they should not be taken as confirmation that those projects continued.

The public record in these interviews supports a clear outline: Byrd moved on from Judge Judy, kept pursuing acting, and later returned to court television on Tribunal Justice. It does not establish his earnings, the reasons he was not on Judy Justice, or a definitive list of all his acting credits and current projects.
