TBS does not have a regular over-the-air antenna channel in the United States. The national TBS feed is a cable network, so an antenna scan will not make it appear. To watch TBS, you need a cable or satellite package, or a participating live-TV streaming service.
There is no universal answer such as “TBS is channel 17” or “TBS is channel 46.” Channel numbers vary by provider, package, and location.

Can you get TBS with an antenna?
No—not the national U.S. TBS network. An antenna receives local digital broadcast signals, including stations affiliated with ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, PBS, and various digital subchannels. TBS is distributed as a cable network rather than as a standard local broadcast station. TBS’s help center identifies TBS, TNT, and truTV as cable networks.
That means a stronger antenna, amplifier, better coaxial cable, or repeated rescans cannot add TBS if it is not being broadcast locally. Those improvements can help you receive available local stations, but they cannot turn a cable network into an over-the-air channel.

Why do some people associate TBS with channel 17?
TBS originated with an Atlanta broadcast station and was once associated with the WTBS call sign. That history explains why older guides, forum posts, and Atlanta references may mention TBS and channel 17 together.
Those references are historical or market-specific. They should not be treated as evidence that the current national TBS network is available through an antenna. If you live in Atlanta, check the current local broadcast lineup rather than relying on the old WTBS reference.
Is Antenna TV the same as TBS?
No. Antenna TV is the name of a separate over-the-air network carried by local broadcast stations in some markets. Seeing “Antenna TV” after an antenna scan does not mean you have received TBS.
The names are easy to confuse: “antenna” can describe the equipment you use, while Antenna TV is a distinct television network.
Can the FCC reception map find TBS?
No. The FCC’s DTV Reception Maps help identify local digital-TV signals that may be receivable at an address. They do not list cable networks or provide a TBS antenna channel number.

What channel is TBS on cable or satellite?
There is no nationwide TBS channel number. The number depends on your provider, city or service area, package tier, and sometimes whether you are viewing a standard-definition or high-definition listing. The provider also needs a carriage agreement for TBS.
To find it:
- Open your provider’s on-screen guide or website.
- Search for TBS by name instead of guessing a number.
- Confirm that your package includes TBS—not merely TNT or truTV.
- If TBS is missing, check whether it belongs to a higher tier or contact the provider.
TBS says viewers should get the linear channel number from their TV provider, because the number varies by location.
How to watch TBS without traditional cable
You can watch TBS without a traditional cable subscription, but not through the antenna itself. Your main options are:
- Live-TV streaming: Choose a service whose current lineup explicitly includes TBS in your ZIP code. Sling TV lists TBS among its channels; its plans, promotions, and package requirements can change, so confirm the lineup before subscribing at Sling’s official site.

TBS says most viewing requires authentication through a participating TV provider and does not offer a full standalone subscription for the network. Its app may be free to install, but installation is not the same as free access to all programming.
What if a streaming service carries TBS but the TBS app rejects your login?
A service can carry TBS inside its own platform without supporting direct authentication in the standalone TBS app. This can produce a “Not Authorized” message even when your subscription includes the network.

Try these steps:
- Confirm that your package includes TBS, not just TNT or truTV.
- Check whether your provider appears in TBS’s supported-provider list.
- Use the credentials tied to the active TV subscription.
- Sign out of the TBS, TNT, and truTV apps, then sign in again if accounts have become cross-authenticated.
- If TBS is available only within the provider’s app, watch it there rather than through the standalone TBS app.
- Contact the provider if the package or authentication status is unclear.
Why might TBS appear in an antenna guide?
If a television or streaming interface shows TBS even though you are using an antenna, the guide may be combining several sources. Possible explanations include:
- The guide mixes antenna, cable, and streaming listings.
- The TV’s “live TV” interface includes internet channels alongside OTA channels.
- The listing belongs to a provider app rather than the antenna input.
- You are seeing the separate Antenna TV network.
- The guide contains stale or incorrectly mapped data.
For a physical check, select the TV’s antenna or tuner input and verify that the channel plays with the internet and pay-TV apps disconnected. If it does not, the listing is not an over-the-air TBS signal.
What should you use an antenna for instead?
An antenna is useful for free local television: broadcast-network affiliates, local news, weather alerts, PBS, syndicated programming, local sports carried by broadcast stations, and digital subchannels. Which stations you receive depends on your address and reception conditions.

If your goal is a particular TBS sports broadcast, do not assume an antenna will provide it. Sports rights vary by league, team, event, market, and season. You may need TBS through a live-TV provider, a league subscription, a sports add-on, or a separate event package. An antenna may still be useful for games carried by your local broadcast station.
