Yes. You can watch the Times Square Ball Drop on Roku on Thursday, December 31, 2026. The best route depends on what you want: the official free Times Square webcast, ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, or another live-TV service. “Roku Live TV” is not one guaranteed broadcast feed, so your options differ between The Roku Channel, a Roku TV antenna input, and paid streaming apps.
The best free option: the official Times Square webcast
If you mainly want to see the Ball Drop rather than a celebrity-focused television special, use the official Times Square New Year’s Eve webcast. Organizers say the 2026 stream will be commercial-free, begin at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time on December 31, and include performances, interviews, the festivities leading to midnight, and the Ball Drop.
Times Square also plans an open-captioned and ASL-interpreted YouTube stream. Its official link is expected to be posted in December 2026, so do not rely on an old or unofficial YouTube URL.
How to watch it on Roku
- Press Home on the Roku remote.
- Open Search, find YouTube, and launch the app.
- In December, search for the official Times Square New Year’s Eve webcast.
- Verify the stream through the official Times Square website before starting it.
- Open it early—well before midnight—to avoid last-minute buffering.
If the official stream is difficult to find in the YouTube app, open the event page on another supported device and cast it or connect that device to the television. The dedicated webcast should not be assumed to appear in The Roku Channel’s Live TV guide.

What “Roku Live TV” actually means
Roku users may be referring to several different things:
- The Roku Channel’s free Live TV guide: This includes hundreds of free, ad-supported streaming channels, including news channels such as ABC News Live and NBC News NOW. These are not automatically the same as your local ABC or NBC broadcast station.
- A Roku TV’s antenna input: A Roku television can receive local over-the-air stations through an HDTV antenna and place them in its Live TV guide.
- Paid live-TV apps: Services such as Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, and Fubo may carry broadcast networks, but availability depends on your ZIP code, plan, and local market.
Roku can combine streaming channels and antenna channels in its guide, but it is not a universal guide for every cable or streaming subscription. Roku’s general Live TV information does not guarantee that a specific Ball Drop program will be listed.
Watching ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
ABC has announced that Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2026 will air live on ABC beginning at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, December 31, 2026. The program is expected to include the Times Square countdown and Ball Drop.
On Roku, access to the full ABC broadcast depends on how you receive ABC:

- A local ABC affiliate received through an HDTV antenna;
- A Roku-compatible live-TV subscription that includes your local ABC station; or
- An authenticated ABC or network-provider app, where the relevant stream is offered in your market and plan.
A Roku device does not automatically provide every local broadcast network, and you should not assume that the ABC app will stream the complete special free without authentication. Check local availability and requirements before relying on this option. See ABC’s official 2026 announcement.
How to watch with an antenna on a Roku TV
This option can provide the local ABC affiliate for free after the antenna purchase, if your location receives that station.
- Connect the HDTV antenna to the Roku TV’s Ant/Cable In port.
- Connect the Roku TV to the internet.
- Press Home and select Live TV.
- Follow the prompts to scan for channels.
- If Live TV is missing, go to Settings > TV inputs > Live TV > Set up input.
- On New Year’s Eve, select your local ABC affiliate from the guide.
Reception depends on location, terrain, signal strength, and antenna placement. If ABC is missing, reposition the antenna and rescan through Home > Live TV > Scan for channels. Roku’s antenna instructions explain the setup.
This works with a Roku TV, not necessarily a standalone Roku Streaming Stick or Roku player. A separate Roku player does not contain an over-the-air tuner. If it is connected to a regular television, you may need that television’s remote to switch between Roku, antenna, and cable inputs.

Can The Roku Channel show the Ball Drop?
It may list event-related coverage or a news simulcast, but you should not treat The Roku Channel as a guaranteed home for ABC’s complete entertainment special or the official Times Square webcast. Check the Live TV guide close to December 31. Guide data may not show a special event until shortly before it begins, and Roku’s guide generally displays upcoming programming only within a limited window.
Seeing ABC News Live in the guide also does not mean you have the local ABC station or full access to Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
Can I watch without paying?
| What you want | Best Roku route | Cost and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Only the Ball Drop | Official Times Square webcast or YouTube stream | Free; the 2026 YouTube link is expected in December |
| ABC’s performances and countdown | Local ABC through an antenna or live-TV service | Free with available antenna reception; otherwise access varies by service and market |
| Several networks and cable channels | A paid Roku live-TV app | Subscription required; prices, plans, trials, and local channels change |
| Free Roku streaming channels | The Roku Channel’s Live TV guide | Free, but no guaranteed Ball Drop or local ABC broadcast |
For one annual event, subscribing to a full live-TV bundle may be unnecessary if the official webcast meets your needs. A paid service makes more sense when you also want recurring access to local channels, DVR features, sports, or broader live programming. Verify channel availability by ZIP code on the provider’s official signup page before subscribing.

The event is not in the Live TV guide
This does not necessarily mean it is unavailable. Guide listings can appear close to the event, and the official webcast may not be a Roku Channel listing at all. Use the Times Square event page or search YouTube directly.
ABC shows different programming
Confirm that you selected the correct local ABC call sign. Local schedules, time-shifted feeds, and market-level programming can differ. Check the schedule again close to December 31.
Your paid app has ABC in another city but not yours
Local affiliate rights vary by ZIP code and plan. Enter your exact ZIP code before paying, and confirm that the listed station is your local ABC affiliate.

The antenna finds no ABC station
Check the coaxial connection, move the antenna near a window or to a higher position, and rescan. Obstructions, terrain, weak signals, and local availability can prevent reception. Also confirm that you have a Roku TV rather than a Roku player attached to a separate television.
The stream buffers at midnight
- Launch the stream early.
- Update Roku and the YouTube app.
- Check the internet connection and the TV’s network diagnostics.
- Keep a second route ready, such as the local ABC antenna feed or another confirmed live stream.
- Do not wait until 11:59 p.m. to test the source.
Bottom line
Roku can absolutely be used to watch the 2026 Times Square Ball Drop. For the simplest free option, use the official Times Square webcast through YouTube when its December link is published. For ABC’s full entertainment special, use a Roku TV antenna, an eligible live-TV service, or an authenticated app. The Roku Channel’s Live TV guide is useful, but it does not guarantee the local ABC broadcast or a dedicated Ball Drop listing.
These options are specific to U.S. viewers; local broadcast and Roku Live TV availability can differ in other countries.
