Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Short answer: In the United States, no single subscription carries every NFL game. Sunday-afternoon games, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, out-of-market games, RedZone, and special-event games are divided among local broadcast stations, cable networks, and several streaming services.
The least expensive setup depends on the games you actually want. A fan following a local team may need only an antenna or live-TV service. An out-of-market fan usually needs Sunday Ticket. Someone trying to watch nearly everything may need several services because the NFL’s rights are divided by time slot and market.
The NFL viewing map at a glance
Assume the following map applies to viewers in the U.S. Rights and schedules can differ in other countries and can change from one NFL season to the next. Always verify the specific game on the current NFL schedule before subscribing.
| Game or programming | Primary outlet | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday afternoon, local game | CBS or FOX through a local affiliate | Usually available through an antenna, cable, satellite, or live-TV service that carries the local station. |
| Sunday afternoon, out of market | NFL Sunday Ticket | Covers eligible Sunday-afternoon CBS and FOX games that are not being broadcast locally in your area. |
| Sunday Night Football | NBC and Peacock | NBC access may come from an antenna or live-TV provider. Peacock is the direct streaming option and may also carry special or exclusive games. |
| Monday Night Football | ESPN, with ABC carrying selected programming or games | Streaming through ESPN platforms commonly requires authentication with a participating TV provider. Do not assume a standalone ESPN+ subscription includes every game. |
| Thursday Night Football | Amazon Prime Video | The NFL identifies Prime Video as the home of Thursday Night Football. Thursday-night scheduling can change during flex-scheduling windows. |
| Selected exclusive games and football programming | NFL Network | Access may come through NFL+, a participating TV provider, or another authorized package, depending on the game and season. |
| Christmas Day and other special events | Season-specific partners, including Netflix in some seasons | Special-event rights do not necessarily follow the normal weekly pattern. Check the individual listing. |
| RedZone | NFL+ Premium or participating TV-provider packages | RedZone jumps between games for scoring action. It is not a complete-game replacement. |
This is why a search for one perfect NFL streaming service usually ends in disappointment: the problem is not a missing button in an app. It is a rights map.

The distinction that prevents most buying mistakes: local versus out of market
Your location determines which Sunday-afternoon games are considered local. A local CBS or FOX affiliate can show the game assigned to your market. The same game may be unavailable through Sunday Ticket because it is already being broadcast locally.
Sunday Ticket is not a replacement for local CBS and FOX. It is an out-of-market package for eligible regular-season Sunday-afternoon games carried by those networks. If you want the local game, you still need access to the local station through an antenna, cable, satellite, or a live-TV streaming service.
A common example is a viewer who has a YouTube TV Base Plan plus Sunday Ticket. The Base Plan can provide local and national channels, including local broadcasts where available, while Sunday Ticket supplies eligible out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games. Buying Sunday Ticket as an individual YouTube Primetime Channel does not automatically add locally broadcast games.
Sunday Ticket also does not include Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video or every nationally televised game. It is best understood as a targeted solution for one problem: watching Sunday-afternoon games that are outside your local market.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSunday Ticket: who should buy it?
Sunday Ticket makes sense when all or most of these statements are true:
- You follow a team that is not in your local broadcast market.
- You want to watch that team live on Sunday afternoon.
- The games you want are carried by CBS or FOX and are not locally available to you.
- You understand that Thursday, Sunday-night, Monday-night, and special-event games may require other outlets.
It is less useful for a fan who mainly watches the local team, because locally broadcast games are not the package’s central purpose. It is also not the right answer for someone who wants every NFL game from every time slot.
YouTube’s current help material lists the YouTube TV Base Plan at $82.99 per month, while Sunday Ticket pricing varies by package and promotion. Treat those figures as time-sensitive rather than permanent. Check the current checkout screen before committing, especially if a discounted introductory offer is displayed.
Sunday Ticket can include features such as multiview, DVR on eligible games, key plays, fantasy-related views, and condensed replays. The exact feature set can differ between the YouTube TV and YouTube platforms, so check the package description for the platform you plan to use.

What each weekly time slot really requires
Sunday afternoon: CBS and FOX
For most fans, these are the games that create the local-versus-out-of-market decision. Local viewers can use an antenna or a service carrying their CBS and FOX affiliates. Out-of-market viewers need Sunday Ticket for eligible live games.
Do not assume that a live-TV subscription carries every local affiliate in every ZIP code. Channel lineups are location-specific, and a service may offer CBS or FOX nationally while lacking the particular station serving your address.
Sunday night: NBC and Peacock
Ordinary Sunday Night Football is available through NBC where the viewer has access to the network. That can mean an antenna, cable or satellite package, or a live-TV streaming service. Peacock provides a direct streaming route for viewers who do not have NBC access.
Peacock’s NFL information for the 2026–27 season states that Sunday Night Football will be available on Peacock and NBC, but schedules and distribution details remain subject to change. The league can also assign special or exclusive games to Peacock, so do not treat every Sunday-night listing as interchangeable with every other one.

Monday Night Football is primarily an ESPN property, with ABC carrying selected NFL programming and games depending on the schedule. ESPN says that games can be streamed through the ESPN app and ESPN.com when the viewer authenticates with a participating TV provider.
That authentication requirement matters. An ESPN+ subscription should not automatically be described as a complete Monday Night Football replacement. Before buying anything, identify the specific Monday game and confirm whether your TV provider or subscription includes the required ESPN access.
Thursday night: Amazon Prime Video
In the U.S., the NFL identifies Amazon Prime Video as the home of Thursday Night Football and says that 15 Thursday Night Football games are included with a Prime membership. Thursday-night games can be affected by flex-scheduling windows, so the day and platform should be checked against the current schedule.
YouTube TV and Sunday Ticket do not include Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video. A fan who wants broad coverage therefore may need Prime Video even after purchasing a live-TV package and Sunday Ticket.

- Long-Range Reception: TV antenna uses four patented loops, Hi-VHF elements and reflectors to receive free TV signals over-the-air from broadcast towers
- Durable Construction: Powerful TV antenna measures 17.4" H x 27.8" W x 6" D with premium durable materials for installation indoors, in an attic, or outdoors in suburban and rural areas
- Compatibility: NEXTGEN TV, 4K, 8K UHD, Full HD 1080p, no Internet required to watch over-the-air TV
- Reception Considerations: Each market has TV towers located in different areas; Distance to the towers and obstructions like trees and your home's building materials will affect reception; an antenna cannot provide cable TV channels
- Enhanced Signal Protection: Reflectors add forward gain and focus antenna's power to protect incoming TV signal from interference that causes pixelation or complete loss of picture; 20-inch mast's pivoting base allows installation on vertical or horizontal surfaces
NFL Network and selected exclusives
NFL Network remains part of the distribution mix for selected exclusive games and additional football programming. NFL+ includes NFL Network access, and NFL platforms also support authenticated access through participating TV providers.
The number and identity of NFL Network exclusives can vary by season. Avoid relying on an evergreen statement such as a fixed number of exclusive games; the current season’s schedule is the authority.
Christmas Day and special-event games
The NFL has used Netflix for exclusive Christmas Day games and lists Netflix among its current streaming partners. That does not mean every Christmas game, or every season’s special event, will use the same platform. Treat holiday and international-style special events as separate schedule entries rather than assuming the normal Sunday, Monday, or Thursday rule applies.
NFL+: useful for mobile viewing, not an all-games replacement
NFL+ is the league’s direct subscription product, but its value depends heavily on the device you use and the kind of game access you want.
| Feature | NFL+ | NFL+ Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Live local regular-season games | Yes, on phones and tablets | Yes, on phones and tablets |
| Live primetime regular-season and postseason games | Yes, on phones and tablets | Yes, on phones and tablets |
| Live game audio | Every game | Every game |
| NFL Network | Included | Included |
| Live out-of-market preseason games | Included | Included |
| NFL RedZone | No | Included |
| Full-game and condensed replays | Limited compared with Premium | Included |
| All-22 coaches film and NFL Pro features | No | Included |
The important limitation is not merely the subscription tier. Live local and primetime games are restricted to phones and tablets because of broadcast restrictions. Premium replays can be available on supported connected devices, but NFL+ does not provide live out-of-market Sunday-afternoon regular-season games on a television.
NFL+ is therefore a strong fit for a mobile-first viewer who wants local and primetime games on a phone or tablet, live audio, highlights, NFL Network, and replay features. It is a poor fit for someone who wants to watch an out-of-market Sunday-afternoon game live on a television.
RedZone is a different kind of NFL product
NFL RedZone is designed for rapid coverage of scoring opportunities across multiple Sunday games. It is excellent for fantasy football, following several teams, and avoiding commercial breaks between live scoring developments. It is not designed to show one complete game from kickoff through the final whistle.
RedZone is available through NFL+ Premium and participating TV-provider packages, including YouTube TV’s Sports Plus add-on. Choose NFL+ Premium if you want RedZone plus NFL-specific replay and film features; choose a provider package if you already have a compatible live-TV subscription and want RedZone integrated into that service.

Build the simplest setup for your viewing habits
If you only want your local team
- Check which CBS, FOX, and NBC affiliates serve your address.
- Test whether an antenna can receive the needed stations.
- If reception is unreliable or you also need ESPN, use a live-TV service carrying the required local stations and national networks.
An indoor TV antenna can be a sensible way to receive local broadcast games without adding a recurring live-TV bill, but it is not guaranteed to work at every address. Reception depends on distance from the transmitters, terrain, building materials, antenna placement, and the broadcast band used by the local station. Check local station availability before purchasing and, if possible, test reception near a window or on the side of the home facing the transmitters.
If you follow an out-of-market team
Start with Sunday Ticket for eligible live Sunday-afternoon games. Then identify the team’s nationally televised games separately:
- Thursday night may require Amazon Prime Video.
- Sunday night may require NBC or Peacock.
- Monday night may require ESPN access through a participating provider.
- Christmas Day or other special games may move to a platform such as Netflix.
This approach avoids paying for a broad package while still assuming it includes the team’s entire schedule.
If you want the broadest practical coverage
Expect a combination rather than a single purchase. A broad setup may include:
Recommended Free Tools
- Local CBS, FOX, and NBC access through an antenna or live-TV provider.
- ESPN and possibly ABC access for Monday-night programming.
- Amazon Prime Video for Thursday Night Football.
- Sunday Ticket for eligible out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games.
- Peacock, NFL Network, NFL+, Netflix, or another service when the season’s schedule assigns games there.
Even this is best described as the broadest practical setup, not a permanent guarantee that every game will appear in one interface. The league can alter special-event distribution, and local availability still depends on geography.
If you mostly watch on a phone or tablet
NFL+ is the most direct fit for live local and primetime games on mobile devices, live audio for every game, highlights, and NFL programming. Premium adds RedZone and deeper replay features. If your main requirement is live Sunday-afternoon games from outside your market on a television, choose Sunday Ticket instead.
If you primarily want RedZone
Compare NFL+ Premium with a participating TV-provider package such as YouTube TV Sports Plus. Pick based on whether you already pay for a provider, whether you want NFL+ replay features, and which devices you plan to use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When the real problem is the television or home network
A subscription provides rights and app access; it does not guarantee that an older television supports the app or that your home network can deliver a stable live stream.
A streaming media player can help when the television lacks a current app, has a slow built-in interface, or no longer receives useful software updates. Amazon’s current Fire TV documentation lists devices including the Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Select, and Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen). Availability and model names can change.
The device is only an access tool. A Fire TV Stick, Roku, or another streaming player does not unlock NFL games by itself. You still need the correct subscription, TV-provider login, Prime membership, local broadcast signal, or other authorized access.

- Universal Compatibility & Advanced Security: Works with any standard router or gateway. Features WPA/WPA2 encryption to protect your network from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
YouTube TV recommends at least 7 Mbps of download speed for the best live-streaming experience. That is a service recommendation, not a guarantee: several simultaneous streams, weak Wi-Fi, congestion, router placement, and network interference can still cause buffering.
Use this troubleshooting order
- Confirm the rights. Check the game’s date, time, network, local-market status, and streaming platform.
- Confirm the account. Make sure you are signed into the service that actually carries the game. If ESPN requires TV-provider authentication, sign in through the provider rather than assuming ESPN+ is sufficient.
- Update the app and device. Install pending app and operating-system updates, then restart the television or streaming player.
- Test the network. Run a speed test near the television, pause other high-bandwidth activity, and restart the router if necessary.
- Improve the connection. Move the router or streaming device, use the stronger Wi-Fi band when appropriate, or connect a compatible device with an Ethernet cable.
- Isolate the fault. Try the same account on a phone or computer. If it works there, the problem is likely the television app, device compatibility, or home network rather than the subscription rights.
The five-minute NFL subscription checklist
Before purchasing anything, write down the answers to these questions:
- Where are you watching? Enter your ZIP code or market when checking local channels.
- Which team or games matter? Local team, out-of-market team, RedZone, every Sunday game, or selected primetime games are different requirements.
- Which time slots matter? Sunday afternoon, Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night, Christmas, and preseason do not share one universal outlet.
- What do you already have? Check antenna reception, cable or satellite channels, live-TV subscriptions, Prime membership, NFL+, and TV-provider credentials.
- Where will you watch? A phone, tablet, smart TV, streaming stick, browser, and game console may have different app and replay support.
- Are you counting the current price or a promotion? Verify the checkout price and renewal terms because packages, rates, and offers change.
Then map each desired game to an outlet before paying. If two services appear to cover the same game, check whether one is merely carrying the local broadcast while the other is intended for out-of-market access.
What changes from season to season
The weekly pattern is useful, but it is not a permanent contract. Prices, promotional offers, app support, exclusive games, NFL Network game counts, Christmas distribution, flex scheduling, and replay features can all change.
The safest habit is to check three things immediately before the season or a major purchase: the NFL’s official viewing guide, the specific game listing, and the current service checkout page. This prevents an old article or a stale promotional price from determining your setup.
Frequently Asked Questions

No. Sunday Ticket is primarily for eligible regular-season Sunday-afternoon CBS and FOX games that are out of market. Locally broadcast games require access to the local CBS or FOX affiliate through an antenna, cable, satellite, or a qualifying live-TV service.
Does NFL+ provide live out-of-market Sunday-afternoon games?
No. NFL+ provides live local and primetime games on phones and tablets, plus audio and other features. Live out-of-market Sunday-afternoon regular-season games require Sunday Ticket.
Is ESPN+ enough to watch every Monday Night Football game?
Do not assume it is. ESPN’s stated streaming route uses the ESPN app or ESPN.com with authentication through a participating TV provider. Check the specific game and your provider credentials.
Do I need Amazon Prime Video if I already have YouTube TV and Sunday Ticket?
Usually, yes, if you want Thursday Night Football. YouTube TV and Sunday Ticket do not include Thursday Night Football on Amazon Prime Video.

No. It can provide access to compatible apps on a television, but you still need the relevant subscription, provider login, Prime membership, or local broadcast signal.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Choose the games first and the service second. Use local CBS, FOX, and NBC access for local broadcasts; Sunday Ticket for eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoons; Prime Video for Thursday nights; ESPN or an authenticated provider for Monday nights; and NFL+, Peacock, NFL Network, Netflix, or other services only when the specific game or feature calls for them. No streaming device or subscription eliminates the NFL’s underlying rights map.
