SHOWTIME programming did not disappear: in the United States, it moved into Paramount+, principally through the Premium plan. The correct question in 2026 is not when SHOWTIME will shut down, but which Paramount+ plan or television provider now carries the programs you want.
What actually closed
The discontinued product was the standalone SHOWTIME streaming service, including its dedicated app and website. It was not the end of the SHOWTIME brand, its series and films, or every SHOWTIME channel sold by a television provider.

Paramount announced the integrated streaming offering, then called Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, on June 27, 2023. SHOWTIME’s own transition notice said standalone customers could watch through the old service until April 30, 2024; from May 1, 2024, the streaming destination was Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. That date is historical. It should not be reported as an upcoming April 30 shutdown in a 2026 article.

Where SHOWTIME is available now
In the U.S., Paramount+ Premium is the clearest direct replacement for the former standalone app. Paramount’s current SHOWTIME page presents SHOWTIME series and movies inside Paramount+, while the company describes SHOWTIME programming as part of its broader brand portfolio. Availability still depends on country, licensing, plan, and billing platform. A title that was once on SHOWTIME may be absent because it is not licensed in your territory, has left the catalog, or is offered through a live-TV provider rather than Paramount+ on-demand.
Paramount+ plans: which one replaces SHOWTIME best?
Prices below are those displayed in official Paramount+ materials on August 18, 2026. Promotions, taxes, student eligibility, and future plan changes can alter the amount you pay.

What happened to existing subscribers?
There was no universal automatic migration. The result depended on who billed the account.
Direct SHOWTIME, Apple, or Roku billing
SHOWTIME said some customers billed directly by SHOWTIME, Apple, or Roku could qualify for an automatic transfer to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Eligible customers were to receive instructions from the applicable provider. Others had to arrange a new Paramount+ subscription themselves. (SHOWTIME transition guidance)
Amazon billing
Amazon-billed SHOWTIME subscriptions were the notable exception: SHOWTIME said they would not automatically transfer. The subscription would be canceled on the customer’s behalf, and the customer would need to subscribe separately to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. (Amazon billing notice)
Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, Roku Channel, and YouTube TV
Customers using SHOWTIME through these channel marketplaces were directed to contact the relevant platform. A channel subscription is not automatically the same entitlement as a direct Paramount+ account, so do not assume it unlocks the Paramount+ app.

The app closure did not automatically cancel every provider-based SHOWTIME package. Continue using the provider’s app or authentication flow unless that provider says its arrangement changed. Buying Paramount+ separately can create a second subscription and may not preserve the same live-channel access.
What to do if you were a former standalone subscriber
- Identify who appeared on your old SHOWTIME billing statement: SHOWTIME, Apple, Roku, Amazon, or another provider.
- Check that account for the transfer or cancellation notice sent during the 2024 transition.
- Confirm whether you still have provider-based SHOWTIME access before purchasing Paramount+.
- If you were not transferred and want the broadest SHOWTIME catalog in the U.S., compare the current Paramount+ Premium offer.
- Review bank or app-store statements for duplicate Paramount+ and provider charges.
If an old program is missing, check the plan, catalog region, account login, and whether the title is supplied through a live-TV service instead of Paramount+ on-demand. Catalog rights can change.

Standalone SHOWTIME streaming

SHOWTIME Anytime
SHOWTIME Anytime was a separate TV Everywhere app for customers authenticated through participating pay-TV providers. Its sunset was a different transition; it should not be used as another name for the standalone subscription app.
SHOWTIME on cable or live television
A linear channel or provider package follows that provider’s contract, billing, and login rules. Its status cannot be inferred solely from the standalone app shutdown.
Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and Paramount+ Premium
The first was the launch-era name for the integrated service. Paramount’s current consumer lineup uses Essential and Premium, with Premium carrying the broadest SHOWTIME access.

Choose Premium if your goal is to replace a complete standalone SHOWTIME subscription and you want the Paramount+ app, downloads, and the plan’s other listed features. Essential costs less but Paramount’s comparison does not promise the complete SHOWTIME offering. If your household already receives SHOWTIME through cable or a live-TV service, verify that entitlement before paying for either plan.

Why the shutdown happened
Paramount’s 2023 integration announcement positioned Paramount+ as SHOWTIME’s new streaming home. The change consolidated the streaming presentation under Paramount+; it did not announce the disappearance of SHOWTIME programming or the brand. (Paramount investor announcement)
