The Fantastic Four drive Galactus away from Earth-828 using Reed Richards’ teleportation technology, and Franklin revives Sue after the battle. The mid-credits scene jumps four years forward and reveals Doctor Doom near Franklin—but it does not explain Doom’s motive or how the team reaches the MCU’s Earth-616.
How does The Fantastic Four: First Steps end?
Galactus targets Franklin, believing the child’s power could make him a successor. The Fantastic Four first try to use a scaled-up version of Reed’s teleportation device to relocate their world, but that effort fails. In the climax, they turn the technology against Galactus instead.
Sue forces Galactus toward the portal while Reed rescues Franklin. The Silver Surfer helps ensure Galactus is sent away from Earth-828. The immediate invasion ends, but the danger surrounding Franklin does not: Galactus’s interest has already established the child as unusually powerful and vulnerable to powerful enemies.
Why does Franklin revive Sue?
Sue appears to die during the confrontation, then Franklin intervenes and brings her back. The film presents this as a dramatic display of his extraordinary abilities, but it does not fully explain how the power works or define its limits. It is safest to read the moment as evidence of Franklin’s immense potential, not as a complete account of what he can do.

What happens in the post-credits scenes?
The mid-credits scene: Doctor Doom is near Franklin
Four years after the Galactus confrontation, Sue is reading to Franklin. She leaves to get another book, senses something is wrong, and returns to find a cloaked figure beside him. The green cloak and Doom mask identify the figure as Doctor Doom, though the scene does not show his face. The Los Angeles Times describes the scene and identifies the character.
That is the scene’s clear story information: Doom has appeared close to Franklin. It does not say why he is there, what he wants, or whether Franklin is in immediate danger.

The end-credits scene: a cartoon from the film’s world
The full end-credits sequence shows the title sequence of the Fantastic Four cartoon that exists within the movie’s world. It is a playful extra, not a second confirmed clue about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday. Den of Geek also distinguishes the cartoon sequence from the Doom scene.
How does the film set up Avengers: Doomsday?
The most firmly supported implication is personal: Doom’s proximity to Franklin gives the Fantastic Four a reason to become involved in a future conflict with him. Franklin’s power has already attracted Galactus, and the mid-credits reveal places Doom in the same story orbit. TechRadar’s ending breakdown likewise focuses on Franklin and Doom as the setup.

Beyond that, the scene leaves room for speculation rather than supplying answers. Doom might seek Franklin or his abilities, but the film does not confirm a kidnapping, a plan to remake reality, or a multiverse crisis. Those ideas should be treated as theories, not plot facts. Doom’s comic-book debut was in Fantastic Four No. 5 (1962), as the Los Angeles Times notes; that history offers character background, not proof of what the film’s Doom intends.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How are the Fantastic Four connected to Earth-616?
First Steps takes place on Earth-828, while the main MCU continuity is Earth-616. The bridge is signaled in the separate Thunderbolts* credits scene: TIME reports that the Fantastic Four’s spacecraft, the Excelsior, appears in Earth-616. This points toward the team joining the main MCU setting, but First Steps does not explain when or how they travel between universes. The Doom scene itself is not a travel scene and does not show that transition.

- The Doomsday plot: The scenes do not specify Doom’s larger plan or the cause of any multiverse conflict.
- The team’s arrival in Earth-616: The Thunderbolts* scene signals the connection, but the transfer mechanics and timing remain unexplained in First Steps.
