Is That Christmas based on a book?
Yes. The film adapts three Richard Curtis children’s stories, illustrated by Rebecca Cobb: The Empty Stocking, Snow Day and That Christmas. They are collected in That Christmas and Other Stories.
- The Empty Stocking follows twins Sam and Charlie and Santa’s mistake.

Who made the film?
Simon Otto directed That Christmas, with a screenplay by Richard Curtis and Peter Souter. Locksmith Animation produced it, DNEG handled animation production, Nicole P. Hearon and Adam Tandy produced, and John Powell composed the score. Ed Sheeran wrote and recorded the original song “Under the Tree,” created for a scene about spending Christmas without loved ones.
Curtis has said the film’s town was inspired by a place much like his own in Suffolk. Its small-town setting and interlocking stories give the film an English Christmas atmosphere, while the emotional focus ranges from childhood comedy to loneliness and family relationships.
