After Survivor 47 ended with Sue Smey receiving no jury votes, she said the result hurt: “It sucked.” She was disappointed, particularly that allies Caroline Vidmar and Gabe Ortis did not vote for her, but also said she was proud of reaching the end and pushing through.
How the Survivor 47 jury vote ended
In a post-finale interview published December 19, 2024, by Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross and reproduced by AOL, the result was reported as 7–1–0: Rachel LaMont received seven votes, Sam Phalen received one, and Smey received none. The vote count comes from that interview report.

Why Smey expected to earn votes
Smey said she expected the jury to consider her challenge performance, finding an idol, strategic influence, and loyalty. She hoped that reaching the end and playing strongly at age 58/59 would earn respect. She also acknowledged Rachel’s strong game and said Rachel deserved the win if Smey did not win.
Why the shutout disappointed her
Smey said she was surprised and disappointed that she received no votes, including from allies Caroline Vidmar and Gabe Ortis. She offered her impression that jurors may have formed a view at Ponderosa about who the best player was; that was her speculation, not a verified account of jury deliberations.

She described the emotional strain of watching the finale with family and friends and then attending the after-show: “And it was sad that I didn’t get any votes. And I was trying to hold it together last night watching it with everybody there and with the love of my family and my friends, it choked me up a little knowing I didn’t get any votes. It sucked. It’s hard, but I was still proud of myself for doing what I did and sticking through and being strong and pushing through.”

The phrase came from Smey’s post-finale reflection on the jury shutout and its emotional impact. It is separate from the earlier episode line “Tribal really sucked tonight,” said after Caroline’s blindside; that comment concerned a different moment in the game.
