Ryan Gosling and Ryan Reynolds have been described publicly as friendly and as joking about their similarities. That supports a picture of cordial rapport, but it does not establish that they are close private friends or show how often they spend time together.
What is known about their relationship?
A 2016 TIME roundup of unexpected celebrity friendships grouped the two Canadian actors and described them as “completely friendly, joking about their similarities.” That is TIME’s editorial characterization, not a direct quote from either actor.

The description is evidence of public cordiality, not a detailed account of their private lives. It does not establish the depth of their friendship or whether that characterization reflects their relationship today.
Does Gosling’s Ryan Reynolds name joke mean they are close?
No. In a 2024 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gosling joked that he was “this close” to having the same name as Ryan Reynolds. The conversation concerned Gosling’s adolescent work with Burt Reynolds, a different actor. The name joke is not evidence of a close relationship between Gosling and Ryan Reynolds.

Have they worked together?
The available evidence does not establish a joint film or television project, a long-running collaboration, or direct comments from either actor about the depth of their friendship. The clearest supported answer is therefore limited: public coverage has described them as friendly and playful about their similarities, but their private closeness is not established.
