David Jelinsky quit a challenge in the Survivor 46 premiere, but he did not leave the game then. He stayed with Yanu and was later voted out at the tribe’s first Tribal Council. The distinction matters: this episode is about a challenge quit, not a player who quit the entire season and returned.
Which Survivor 46 episode features the quit?
The episode is “This Is Where the Legends Are Made,” the two-hour Season 46 premiere that aired February 28, 2024. CBS lists it as Episode 1 and describes 18 new castaways beginning the adventure. CBS’s Season 46 episode guide identifies the premiere and its cast.
What did David Jelinsky quit?
Jelinsky stopped competing in the Sweat challenge. He did not quit Survivor or leave the island at that point; he continued playing with Yanu. Contemporary recaps from TVLine and TV Insider describe the challenge decision and what followed.
How did the challenge decision affect Yanu?
Quitting the task gave Yanu’s members a reason to question Jelinsky’s reliability. That is an interpretation of the episode’s social dynamics, rather than an official production explanation: in a game built on cooperation and trust, stopping a shared task can shape how tribemates assess a player.

But the quit was not itself an immediate exit. Jelinsky remained in the game until Yanu went to Tribal Council. The premiere’s outcome was a vote, not a voluntary departure.
How did Jelinsky leave the game?
Yanu voted Jelinsky out at its first Tribal Council, making him the first player eliminated from Season 46. So the episode’s headline-sized twist is not that someone quit the whole game and somehow returned: Jelinsky quit a challenge, carried on in the game, and was later voted out.

Is the March episode about the same incident?
No. A separate CBS announcement for the March 20, 2024 episode described a castaway trying to take the game into their own hands to avoid having their torch snuffed. That is a different episode and should not be confused with Jelinsky’s premiere challenge quit. The announcement concerns the later episode, not the February premiere.
