Can StreamYard stream 24/7 on YouTube?
StreamYard documents a browser-based live production studio, supported YouTube destinations, and prerecorded streaming and scheduling. Those capabilities can suit a produced show, but they do not establish that a broadcast will continue unattended around the clock or recover from every interruption. The official StreamYard materials cited here do not provide a 24/7 uptime guarantee.
For desktop use, StreamYard recommends a modern quad-core computer, 4 GB RAM minimum and 6–8 GB recommended. It recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download, and Ethernet where possible. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees of a continuous stream. See StreamYard’s requirements.
Is OBS good for 24/7 YouTube streaming?
OBS is a YouTube-listed software encoder suited to users who want local control over production and encoding. It runs on your own computer, so keeping a stream going also depends on that computer, its power, the network connection, and the stability of the streaming setup. OBS’s system requirements page cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Actual demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. The OBS page is dated August 25, 2021; check its current system requirements against your machine.

Neither local encoding nor a browser studio removes the need for an unattended-operation plan. If a person or production team will be present, either can be part of a live workflow. If a prerecorded program must loop with no one at the computer, evaluate a continuous-playout system instead.
How to keep a YouTube live stream running all day
First decide whether you need a live-produced show or unattended prerecorded playback. For either encoder-based workflow, YouTube’s documented process is to connect the encoder using the stream URL and stream key, then start the encoder. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Review YouTube’s encoder setup guidance for the current interface and controls.

- Confirm live access. If the channel has never streamed live before, YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Complete activation before the planned broadcast.
- Choose the production workflow. Use StreamYard for browser-based guests and branded layouts, or OBS for locally configured scenes and encoding. For an unattended prerecorded loop, select a dedicated continuous-playout option rather than assuming a studio or encoder will manage itself.
- Prepare the connection. Use a stable internet connection; for StreamYard desktop use, its help center recommends Ethernet where possible. Ensure the streaming device has reliable power. A wired connection can reduce dependence on Wi-Fi, but it cannot ensure uptime.
- Configure the encoder and YouTube connection. Enter the stream URL and stream key in the encoder as YouTube directs, then start the encoder. Do not expose the key in a public screen share, recording, or message. The reviewed source pages do not prescribe universal bitrate, resolution, frame-rate, or keyframe settings for every workflow; use the current YouTube and encoder guidance for the particular output you intend to send.
- Check the broadcast before leaving it unattended. Confirm YouTube is receiving the stream, audio and video are correct, and the intended program or playlist is playing. Decide who or what will notice a disconnect and how the encoder or playout source will be restarted. The cited documentation does not establish a complete failover design.
- Plan for the archive separately. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need a VOD from a continuous broadcast, plan around that documented limit and verify current YouTube controls; the guidance does not promise automatic archiving for streams longer than 12 hours.
Operational checks and common problems
- Stream will not start: If this is the channel’s first live broadcast, activation may still be pending for up to 24 hours. Check channel activation and verify the encoder is using the correct stream URL and key.
- Stream drops or becomes unstable: Check the internet connection and the streaming computer’s power and load. For StreamYard desktop use, its recommendation is at least 5 Mbps upload and download; that figure is not a guarantee, and OBS performance also depends on settings and scene complexity.
- Encoder stops when unattended: A local computer-dependent workflow requires the computer to remain powered and connected. Establish a monitoring and restart procedure, or choose a dedicated continuous-playout service or hardware option designed for unattended playback.
- Stream key exposed: Treat it as private. If it is disclosed, use YouTube’s current controls to replace or reset it, then update the encoder’s saved key.
- No automatic archive appears: Check whether the stream exceeded 12 hours. YouTube’s cited guidance guarantees automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not for longer ones.
- Copyright or reused-content concerns: Continuous playback does not change the need to have rights to the video and audio you broadcast or to follow YouTube’s policies. Confirm permissions and channel-policy requirements before scheduling a long-running loop.
