Serena Williams appeared during Kendrick Lamar’s performance of “Not Like Us” at the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show on February 9, 2025. The cameo was widely viewed through the lens of Lamar’s feud with Drake and Williams’ reported past relationship with Drake, but the available reporting does not establish Williams’ motive or describe a formal introduction by Lamar.
What happened at the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show?
Kendrick Lamar headlined the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. The NFL announced Lamar as the headliner and published the official performance video: NFL’s announcement and NFL’s performance video.
During “Not Like Us,” Serena Williams appeared as a surprise guest and danced onstage, according to the Associated Press. NPR described a camera shot of Williams crip-walking during the song and noted that she is from Compton, like Lamar. The reporting establishes a cameo during the performance; it does not explain precisely how she entered or confirm that Lamar formally introduced her.
How long was the set, and what songs did Lamar perform?
The Associated Press reported that the performance lasted 13 minutes and included ten songs. Five of the ten came from Lamar’s 2024 album GNX.

Why did the cameo draw attention?
“Not Like Us” is associated with Lamar’s highly publicized feud with Drake. Contemporary coverage framed Williams’ appearance as notable because she was reported to have dated Drake in the past. That context helps explain why the cameo attracted attention, but it does not establish that Williams intended her dance as a message to Drake.
