Choose based on your workflow and computer, then test the exact scenes, encoder settings, and internet connection you plan to use. For a prerecorded channel that must stay live without a computer running at home, a cloud service is a different kind of option.
Which is better for a 24/7 YouTube stream: OBS or Streamlabs?
Both desktop applications can send an encoded live stream to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder directory lists OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) as open-source software available at no charge and lists Streamlabs as a software encoder. YouTube describes encoders as tools for managing advanced production and external audio or video hardware. That listing does not establish that either app can run unattended for 24 hours or that one is more reliable.

OBS publishes its system requirements with the caution: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Streamlabs likewise says actual requirements vary with workload. Neither minimum specifications nor an attractive setup wizard is proof of long-run stability.
What settings should I use for a stable YouTube stream?
Start with YouTube’s live encoder settings, then select settings your upstream connection and computer can sustain. YouTube recommends running a speed test, testing representative audio and video, and monitoring stream health and messages while live. It recommends RTMPS, the encrypted extension of RTMP.

These are YouTube’s published H.264 figures; do not apply them to AV1 or H.265, for which YouTube lists different ranges.

Protocol, rate control, and keyframes
- Choose RTMPS when available; YouTube recommends it because it encrypts the data to and through Google’s servers.
- YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, and AV1 as supported protocol/codec options in its encoder guidance.
- Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval as recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- In Live Control Room, specify resolution, frame rate, and bitrate in the encoder. YouTube can transcode the incoming stream into multiple output formats, but that does not remove the need to send a stable source stream.
Test the whole chain, not just a short preview
- Build the actual scene or playlist you intend to run, including overlays, audio, and transitions.
- Run a speed test and set output quality conservatively enough for the sustained upload connection, not its best moment.
- Make a multi-hour test before relying on unattended operation. Watch YouTube stream-health warnings and messages, dropped frames, encoder load, computer temperature, audio continuity, and disk use.
- Simulate or observe a network interruption and check whether your setup returns to a healthy live state. The cited official pages do not promise that either desktop app will recover automatically from every failure.
- For a local recording, verify free space, file-splitting behavior, and what happens after an app or computer restart.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the real broadcast. A static test screen can miss problems that appear only with animation, changing video, or a more demanding scene.

Can OBS or Streamlabs keep a channel live unattended all day?
They can be used as encoders in a creator-managed desktop setup, but a 24/7 broadcast depends on more than the application: the computer, encoder workload, power, operating system, and network all have to keep working. The cited documentation does not establish either application’s unattended restart behavior or guarantee recovery from every failure. A wired Ethernet connection is a practical choice where available; it cannot prevent ISP outages, upstream congestion, or a local power cut.
If you choose a desktop setup, keep the scene as simple as the program allows, avoid running unnecessary heavy applications, and treat automatic recovery as something to verify rather than assume. A long test on the machine and connection you will actually use is more informative than meeting a published minimum specification.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube for a complete archive of one uninterrupted day-long event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends keeping a local recording backup, and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” See YouTube’s archive guidance.
If discrete replays matter, consider scheduling shorter sessions and test local recording, storage capacity, and file rotation. The cited sources do not establish which desktop app records locally more reliably, so verify your own setup before depending on it.

Does running a 24/7 stream make it monetizable?
No. Duration alone does not establish eligibility for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and require original, authentic content. Its July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and explains that repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Reused content is reviewed separately; having permission does not necessarily settle eligibility. A repeated video loop should not be assumed to qualify simply because it accrues watch time. India-specific eligibility checks
For channels based in India, consult YouTube’s India-region YouTube Partner Program page for current eligibility and feature requirements. The page lists ad-revenue eligibility as 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the prior 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the prior 90 days, alongside other requirements. It also lists lower thresholds for some fan-funding features, which have their own age, location, and policy conditions. These are program thresholds, not a guarantee of approval or earnings.

What should Indian creators consider?
The encoder documentation does not identify an India-specific advantage for OBS or Streamlabs, nor does it establish performance on particular Indian ISPs, power conditions, or third-party services. Apply the same process: check OS support, choose settings for sustained upload capacity, and test the actual computer, scene, network, and power arrangement. Ethernet is useful where practical, but no cable can fix an ISP or power outage.
