Stevie Nicks on Kamala Harris, Fleetwood Mac, and Her New Music Plans

Stevie Nicks’s October 24, 2024 interview with Rolling Stone connected three subjects that are often treated separately: her “lighthouse” image of women guiding younger generations, her view of Kamala Harris during the 2024 election, and her conclusion that Fleetwood Mac could not continue in its old form after Christine McVie’s death. Later 2025 reports added a concrete update: Nicks said she was making a solo record with seven autobiographical songs, including one about Prince.

Nicks’s “lighthouse” metaphor and the 2024 election

In the Rolling Stone interview published October 24, 2024, Nicks described a lighthouse as a woman whose experience helps guide younger women. She then applied that metaphor to the presidential contest taking place at the time: “The way I feel about this upcoming election is that Kamala Harris is the lighthouse, too.”

The wording belongs to that 2024 political moment. It records Nicks’s personal, metaphorical assessment of Harris during the campaign; it should not be recast as a current endorsement of a later election or as evidence of a formal campaign role.

Experience as guidance

Nicks’s explanation made the image less about political branding than about generations of women. In her framing, women who have lived through difficult choices can serve as visible points of orientation for those coming after them. Harris was presented as an example of that symbolism in the context Nicks was discussing.

The Lighthouse and reproductive-rights testimony

Nicks has also used the lighthouse image in music. CBS News discussed “The Lighthouse” as a song about fighting for reproductive rights and included Nicks’s account of how her own reproductive choice affected her life and career. Her comments were personal testimony and political expression, not medical or legal advice.

She defended the song’s right to be heard in these terms: “Poets write what they write, and poets should not be censored. Writers should not be censored. This song should not be censored. It should go out into the world and do what it’s gonna do, maybe change some minds.”

That statement explains why Nicks regards the song as more than a topical release: she wants it to enter public conversation and potentially alter listeners’ views. The source documents her position as a singer-songwriter speaking about her own experience.

Why Nicks says Fleetwood Mac is finished

Christine McVie’s death in 2022 changed Nicks’s understanding of Fleetwood Mac permanently. In the Rolling Stone interview, she called McVie her “musical soulmate” and said she was done with the band.

An Associated Press report in July 2025, drawing on Nicks’s comments to MOJO, quoted her saying there was “no chance” of re-forming Fleetwood Mac without McVie. This is Nicks’s view rather than a formal declaration issued by every surviving member, but it makes her position unambiguous: replacing McVie would not restore the group she knew.

The loss behind the decision

McVie was not simply another member in Nicks’s account. Their musical partnership and friendship were central to the band’s identity, so a reunion without her would represent a different project rather than a return to the classic lineup.

In Your Dreams
  • Stevie Nicks' seventh studio album featuring the classic singles "Secret Love," "For What It's Worth" & "Moonlight (A Vampire's Dream)." Originally released in 2011, the album peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200. Limited-edition 2LP pressed on Forest Green vinyl.

What new music Nicks has been working on

The literal question in the 2024 Rolling Stone interview was what new music she had been working on. Nicks said she had many song ideas, including material written by other people that she hoped to sing, and that she wanted to work on an album after touring. Those remarks described intentions and a creative pipeline, not a completed or announced release.

The April 2025 album update

On April 17, 2025, Pollstar reported that Nicks announced from the stage at the Pollstar Live Hall of Fame that she was making a record. She said she had seven autobiographical songs and had written one about Prince.

Other reported song ideas

A secondary summary of a June 2024 MOJO interview reported plans for new material including songs called “The Vampire’s Wife” and another women’s-rights song. Because that account is secondary, those details should be treated as provisional unless confirmed against the primary MOJO interview.

Where Buckingham Nicks fits

Before Fleetwood Mac, Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham recorded the 1973 album Buckingham Nicks. The Associated Press reported in 2025 that a remastered edition was announced in vinyl, CD and digital formats, using the original analog master tapes. AP also quoted Nicks’s liner-note description of the partnership: “It was a very natural thing, from the beginning.”

That reissue is background to Nicks’s later work rather than evidence of a new Fleetwood Mac project. Current retailer stock, pricing and release availability can change and are not established by the cited report.
