Star Wars: The Acolyte Season 1 is a completed eight-episode Disney+ mystery thriller set roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace. It follows former Jedi apprentice Osha Aniseya and her twin, Mae, as a series of Jedi murders exposes the truth behind a catastrophe on Brendok. The season premiered with two episodes on June 4, 2024, concluded on July 16, and was not renewed for a second season.
The result is a self-contained but open-ended story: the immediate murder investigation and Brendok mystery reach a conclusion, while the Stranger’s larger plans, the Jedi’s concealed history, and the consequences of Osha’s final choice remain unresolved.

What The Acolyte Season 1 is about
Star Wars: The Acolyte is an eight-episode mystery thriller about a series of murders targeting Jedi during the final years of the High Republic. Jedi Master Sol leads much of the investigation after the death of Master Indara, but the evidence points toward Mae Aniseya, a former associate of Sol who was believed to have died years earlier.
Mae is not the season’s only central character. Amandla Stenberg plays Mae and her twin sister, Osha. Mae has become a determined assassin pursuing Jedi, while Osha has left the Order and works as a meknek. Their divided identities, conflicting memories, and different relationships with the Jedi make the twins the emotional center of the story.

The setting is important. This is not a story thousands of years before the films. Lucasfilm places it roughly a century before The Phantom Menace, when the Jedi are still at the height of their institutional power and the Republic is comparatively stable. The series therefore examines the Jedi before the political and spiritual crises familiar from the prequel trilogy, while showing that the Order already has serious weaknesses.
The main characters
- Mae Aniseya and Osha Aniseya
- Both twins are played by Amandla Stenberg. Mae appears to be the killer in the opening episodes, while Osha is a former Jedi apprentice trying to build an independent life. The season gradually shows that neither sister’s identity can be understood from the opening premise alone.
- Master Sol
- Lee Jung-jae plays the Jedi Master who leads the investigation. Sol has a personal connection to the twins and to the events on Brendok, making his pursuit of Mae inseparable from his own buried guilt and assumptions.
- Qimir and the Stranger
- Manny Jacinto first appears as Qimir, a smuggler and apothecary assistant. The season later reveals his connection to the masked dark-side warrior known as the Stranger. His presence establishes that a dangerous dark-side threat exists even while the Jedi believe their institutional position is secure.
- Master Indara
- Carrie-Anne Moss plays Indara, the senior Jedi whose death in the premiere starts the investigation. She previously led the Jedi mission to Brendok.
- Padawan Jecki Lon
- Dafne Keen plays Sol’s capable and disciplined Padawan. Jecki represents a younger generation of Jedi trying to follow procedure while confronting a threat the Order does not understand.
- Jedi Knight Yord Fandar
- Charlie Barnett plays Yord, a rule-oriented Jedi whose suspicion of Osha and commitment to protocol create friction within the investigation team.
- Vernestra Rwoh
- Rebecca Henderson plays Vernestra, a senior Jedi authority. Vernestra also connects the live-action series to the publishing-era High Republic: the character first appeared in the 2021 novel A Test of Courage.
- Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril
- Jodie Turner-Smith and Margarita Levieva play the leaders of the coven on Brendok. Their community’s beliefs, its plans for the twins, and its conflict with the Jedi shape the season’s account of the sisters’ childhood.
- Master Kelnacca and Master Torbin
- Joonas Suotamo plays Kelnacca, a Wookiee Jedi Master who participated in the Brendok mission. Dean-Charles Chapman plays Torbin, a Jedi whose Barash Vow and connection to Brendok become relevant to Mae’s investigation.
Complete episode guide
The season deliberately uses a non-linear structure. The opening episodes present Mae as an apparent killer, the third episode moves 16 years into the past, and the seventh revisits the same disaster from another perspective. Watching the episodes in release order is essential because each version of Brendok changes the meaning of the previous one.
1. Lost / Found — June 4, 2024
Master Indara is murdered, and the Jedi begin tracking the suspected killer. Their investigation leads back to Mae, who was presumed dead and is connected to Sol’s past. Osha is pulled into the case because of her resemblance to Mae and her former relationship with the Jedi Order.
The premiere establishes the season’s central uncertainty: the Jedi believe they are investigating an outside assassin, but the crime appears connected to a personal history they have not fully disclosed. Osha’s return to the investigation also creates the show’s doubled perspective, since the audience is following both the alleged killer and the person who looks exactly like her.

Mae targets Master Torbin, the next Jedi associated with the Brendok mission. The investigation introduces Qimir, who works in an apothecary operation and appears to have information about Mae’s movements. The Jedi use Osha in an attempt to draw Mae out.
Torbin’s Barash Vow adds another layer to the case. His withdrawal from ordinary Jedi life does not remove him from the consequences of Brendok; it instead suggests that the mission left lasting damage among the people who took part in it.
3. Destiny — June 11, 2024
The narrative moves 16 years into the past to Brendok. Mae and Osha are living among a coven led by Mother Aniseya and Mother Koril, whose community is preparing for an Ascension ceremony. Indara, Torbin, Kelnacca, and Sol arrive as the Jedi investigate the twins and their unusual Force potential.
The episode presents the Jedi’s arrival from the perspective of the coven and the children. The Order sees a possible Force-related anomaly that must be understood, while the coven sees outsiders intruding on its family and spiritual life. The episode ends with the catastrophe that separates the twins and leaves both sides with an incomplete understanding of what happened.
4. Day — June 18, 2024
Back in the present, the investigation moves toward Khofar and the next Jedi target. Mae’s motives remain disputed, while Osha’s identity and loyalties continue to complicate the group’s plans. The episode guides the characters toward the forest confrontation that will transform the case.

Its main function is to tighten the connection between the current murders and the Brendok mission. The Jedi are no longer simply pursuing Mae; they are moving toward the consequences of their own earlier decisions.
5. Night — June 25, 2024
The Jedi team confronts the Stranger in the Khofar forest. The masked warrior proves far more dangerous than the Order expected, defeating trained Jedi and exposing how unprepared the group is for a coordinated dark-side attack.
The confrontation results in the deaths of Jecki Lon and Yord Fandar, among others. It is the season’s clearest demonstration that the Jedi’s power and reputation do not make individual Jedi invulnerable. The episode also changes the apparent scale of the threat: Mae is no longer the only danger connected to the killings.

Osha and the Stranger confront questions of power, identity, and destiny on an island world. Mae attempts to reach the Jedi and influence the investigation, but the sisters’ plans remain entangled with the Stranger’s agenda.
The episode develops the relationship between Osha and the Stranger without reducing it to a simple conversion story. Osha is drawn toward someone who recognizes her anger and dissatisfaction with the Jedi, while the Stranger is also trying to shape her choices. The series makes autonomy a central question: is Osha choosing a new path, or is another powerful figure giving her resentment a direction?
7. Choice — July 9, 2024
The story returns to Brendok, this time revealing more of the Jedi’s perspective. The episode fills in missing information about the mission, the coven, the twins’ creation and separation, and Sol’s responsibility for the tragedy.
The revised account does not make the Jedi uniformly evil or the coven uniformly innocent. Instead, it shows how fear, professional certainty, cultural misunderstanding, and personal attachment combine to produce disaster. Sol’s desire to protect the children is genuine, but his judgment is compromised by what he believes he is entitled to do and by the conclusions he draws from incomplete evidence.

The finale resolves the immediate mystery behind the Jedi deaths and the Brendok tragedy. Mae and Osha’s lives separate again, but their positions are reversed in significant ways. Osha makes a decisive turn toward the dark side, while Mae’s future is altered and her relationship to the past is no longer what it was at the beginning.
The episode also expands the institutional consequences. Vernestra becomes connected to the concealment of the truth surrounding Brendok, suggesting that protecting the Jedi Order’s reputation matters as much as establishing an honest account of the deaths. The season closes with a brief appearance by Yoda, linking this local tragedy to the wider Jedi institution that will eventually dominate the prequel-era galaxy.

The ending explained
Mae is not simply the villain of the story
The season begins by presenting Mae as an assassin taking revenge on Jedi. That description is not entirely false: she is pursuing Jedi targets and is responsible for initiating the crime spree. However, the show gradually separates the visible acts from the history that produced them.
Mae’s actions are rooted in the Brendok tragedy and in her belief that the Jedi destroyed her family. The later episodes show that her understanding is incomplete and that the Jedi’s official version is incomplete as well. Mae is therefore neither an unambiguous villain nor an innocent bystander. She is a person acting on a damaged memory and a conviction that revenge will restore justice.
What happened on Brendok?
The Brendok flashbacks are structured as competing accounts rather than one immediate, objective explanation. The coven was raising Mae and Osha and preparing them for an Ascension ceremony. The Jedi arrived because of their interest in the twins’ Force potential. The resulting confrontation ended in the coven’s destruction, the separation of the sisters, and the belief that one twin had died.
The seventh episode makes Sol’s culpability more apparent. His concern for the children does not excuse the Jedi’s intrusion or the decisions made during the crisis. The tragedy grows from several failures at once: the Jedi misread the coven, the coven and the Order could not establish trust, and Sol allowed personal emotion to influence a mission that required restraint.
Why does Osha turn toward the dark side?
Osha begins the season as someone who has left the Jedi path and is trying to live on her own terms. Her return to the investigation forces her to confront both her childhood and the Order’s role in it. The Stranger offers an alternative to the Jedi’s rules and claims to understand the anger that the Order has suppressed.
Her turn is not presented as the result of one isolated conversation. It follows the gradual collapse of her faith in the Jedi, the revelation of Sol’s role in Brendok, and her growing willingness to treat power as a means of personal choice rather than institutional duty. By the finale, Osha’s decision is one of the season’s most important reversals: the former Jedi apprentice becomes the character closest to the title’s dark-side implication.
What happens to the Jedi and the truth?
The immediate investigation is resolved, but the truth is not openly repaired. Vernestra’s involvement in concealing what happened to the Jedi and on Brendok shows the Order choosing institutional protection over full transparency. The appearance of Yoda makes the concealment especially significant: the secret is being absorbed into the larger history of the Jedi rather than publicly confronted.
This is why Season 1 feels both complete and open-ended. The murders and the personal mystery receive an ending, but the political and historical consequences remain unresolved. The series leaves questions about the Stranger, the larger dark-side threat, Vernestra’s choices, and the Jedi’s future without a second season to continue them.
What the season is saying about the Jedi
Institutional fallibility rather than simple corruption
The Acolyte does not require the Jedi to be secretly evil in order to criticize them. Its more interesting argument is that a well-intentioned institution can cause harm when it assumes that its authority is automatically legitimate. The Jedi are individually varied: some are compassionate, some are rigid, and some are burdened by guilt. Their common weakness is the confidence that their training gives them the right answer before they have understood the people in front of them.

That approach is consistent with the High Republic setting. The Order is powerful and respected, but it is not yet wise enough to recognize every threat to its legitimacy. Brendok becomes an example of how institutional certainty can turn a mission of observation into an intervention with irreversible consequences.
Memory is not the same as truth
The repeated flashbacks are the season’s structural argument. Mae remembers the catastrophe one way. Osha carries a different emotional reality. Sol believes he understands what happened, while the Jedi record preserves a version shaped by institutional needs. The viewer is repeatedly asked to distinguish memory, interpretation, and evidence.
This makes the show’s mystery personal rather than merely procedural. The question is not only who killed the Jedi. It is also who gets to define the event afterward, whose account becomes official, and what happens when a person builds an entire life around a memory that is only partly true.
Family, identity, and autonomy
Mae and Osha are shaped by competing claims. They are twins with a powerful bond, children of the Brendok coven, potential Jedi recruits, and adults who want control over their own lives. The season asks whether identity comes from memory, upbringing, institutional affiliation, or chosen action.
The twins’ doubled roles make that question visible. Mae begins as the apparent aggressor and Osha as the sympathetic outsider, but the story keeps exchanging those positions. Neither sister can be reduced to the role assigned to her by the Jedi, the coven, or the other twin.

The dark side before the Skywalker saga
The Stranger is important to the chronology because he demonstrates that dark-side power is an active threat during the Jedi’s institutional high point. The Jedi are not responding to a danger that appears only after the Republic’s collapse. The danger already exists, but the Order’s confidence makes it difficult for its members to recognize how vulnerable they are.
High Republic context and continuity
The series brings the High Republic into live action after the era had primarily been developed through novels and other publishing projects. Its placement approximately 100 years before The Phantom Menace makes it earlier than the Skywalker-era films while still close enough to illuminate the Jedi institution that audiences know from the prequels.
Vernestra Rwoh is the clearest bridge to that publishing history. She originated in the 2021 novel A Test of Courage and appears in the series as a senior Jedi authority. Her presence is not required knowledge for watching Season 1, but it signals that the show is participating in the broader High Republic timeline rather than functioning as an entirely isolated prequel.

The show is rated TV-14. No prior High Republic reading is necessary: the season introduces its central characters and conflict on screen. Books can add context, especially for Vernestra, but they are optional rather than prerequisites.
Books and collectibles connected to the series
Lucasfilm Publishing announced The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown, a young-adult novel set before the events of the television series. The announcement gave it a July 29, 2025 availability date and identified Jecki Lon, Yord Fandar, and Master Sol among its connections. It is best approached as a companion prequel, not as a novelization of Season 1 or a replacement for an unmade second season.
For readers most interested in Vernestra and the wider High Republic, The Acolyte: Wayseeker is an adult novel by Justina Ireland. It explores Vernestra approximately 20 years before the events of the series. It is therefore useful expanded lore, but it is not a retelling of the show’s plot.
There are also officially licensed collectibles based on the live-action series. The Black Series Jecki Lon figure and the Bazil action figure were listed by Hasbro Pulse at $24.99 each in the retrieved product information, while The Stranger electronic helmet was listed at $99.99. The Black Series Jecki Lon figure and The Stranger electronic helmet were marked sold out in those listings; stock and prices are volatile. The Bazil action figure is likewise a collector item rather than something required to understand the story.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The season’s music was composed by Michael Abels, and the original soundtrack was released digitally on July 19, 2024. The available research does not verify an official Blu-ray or DVD release for Season 1, so viewers should not assume that a physical home-video edition exists. It also establishes a digital soundtrack album, not a physical soundtrack product.
Was The Acolyte renewed for Season 2?
No. The first season is complete, and contemporary reporting in August 2024 described the series as canceled after one season. It is more precise to say that Lucasfilm did not proceed with a second season or that the series was not renewed. The retrieved official series materials establish the eight-episode season but do not constitute a standalone Lucasfilm cancellation announcement.
That status changes how to read the finale. The season answers the immediate murder mystery and explains the Brendok tragedy, but it intentionally leaves broader questions open. There is no announced Season 2 in the supplied research to resolve the Stranger’s longer-term plans, the consequences of Vernestra’s cover-up, or the full historical impact of Osha’s choice.
Why Season 1 matters in the larger saga
The Acolyte works as a prequel not because it retells an event from the films, but because it shows a Jedi Order that still appears successful while already displaying the habits that will later become dangerous. The Order has authority, resources, and public legitimacy, yet it struggles with humility, transparency, and the limits of its own perspective.
Its central mystery also reframes the idea of a fall to the dark side. Osha’s turn is not merely a sudden rejection of goodness, just as Mae’s violence is not merely evidence of innate evil. Both sisters are responding to inherited trauma and to institutions that tried to define their futures. The season’s final image is therefore less about a completed transformation than about a cycle beginning again.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Star Wars: The Acolyte Season 1 is a completed eight-episode High Republic mystery about Mae and Osha’s fractured family history, the Jedi’s failure on Brendok, and the institutional need to hide that failure. It has no second season, but its ending provides a meaningful conclusion to the twins’ immediate story while leaving the wider consequences deliberately unresolved.
