Who was Garrison Brown?
Born on October 31, 1998, Robert Garrison Brown was one of Kody and Janelle Brown’s six children together. He appeared on Sister Wives from the show’s premiere in 2010, when the Brown family’s plural-family structure became the focus of the TLC reality series.
Beyond television, Garrison served in the Nevada Army National Guard. He held the rank of staff sergeant and was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 221st Cavalry. The Nevada National Guard later described him as a soldier whose life and service were honored at a memorial gathering in Las Vegas.

What happened to Garrison Brown?
Flagstaff police responded on March 5, 2024, to a report of a death inside a home. His younger brother Gabriel discovered him, according to reporting by the Los Angeles Times. Police initially treated the death as an apparent suicide and reported no indication of foul play.
Kody and Janelle Brown announced Garrison’s death on March 6. Their statement described him as a bright point in the lives of those who knew him and asked for privacy while the family and friends mourned.
The initial reports used cautious language because the medical examiner had not yet completed the investigation. Reporting published in May 2024 on the Coconino County medical examiner’s autopsy said the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head and the manner of death was suicide. The report also listed ethanol intoxication as a contributing factor and noted caffeine in his system.
Those findings do not establish a single motive. Although viewers saw conflicts within the Brown family on Sister Wives, no authoritative report has tied Garrison’s death to one family dispute, episode, or storyline.

Military memorial and burial
The Nevada National Guard held a memorial service for Staff Sgt. Robert Garrison Brown on March 24, 2024, at the Clark County Armory in Las Vegas. The event was a military memorial service, not his funeral.
TLC later stated that Garrison was buried in Wyoming at a gathering attended by members of the Brown family. The network included the family’s remembrance in its later coverage of the series.
How did Sister Wives address his death?
Season 19 of Sister Wives began after filming for the previous season had started in late 2022. The season 19 premiere, broadcast on September 15, 2024, acknowledged that Garrison had died. The timing meant the program addressed his death after much of the earlier material had already been filmed.
The show’s acknowledgment placed the loss within the family’s ongoing story without proving that any particular on-screen conflict caused it. That distinction matters: reality television shows selected portions of people’s lives, while the public record does not identify one definitive explanation for Garrison’s suicide.

One memorial article from the Nevada National Guard gives March 4 as the date of his passing. Other official and contemporaneous reporting identifies March 5, and that is the date used here. Likewise, the March 24 Guard event should be described as a memorial service rather than a funeral.
