Season 8 arrived on Netflix in the United States on September 15, 2025. That makes Netflix the subscription destination for the complete eight-season run of the original CBS series—but it does not mean Netflix revived the show. CBS’s third cancellation still ended the original series, and there is no Season 9 renewal in the researched record.
Yes—S.W.A.T. Season 8 has a new U.S. streaming home: Netflix added the final season on September 15, 2025. The move gives subscribers access to the complete eight-season run of the 2017 CBS series. It did not, however, revive the show or result in a Season 9. CBS’s third cancellation remains the end of the original series.
Netflix did not uncancel S.W.A.T.
The phrase “new streaming home” describes where the completed final season can be watched after its CBS broadcast run. Netflix acquired streaming availability for Season 8; it did not order another season or reverse CBS’s cancellation.
That distinction matters because S.W.A.T. has already been declared finished more than once. The series now available on Netflix is the 2017 CBS drama starring Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson—not the 1975 television series or the 2003 theatrical film.

Why S.W.A.T. was canceled again
The show’s route to its final season was unusually complicated:
- May 2023: CBS canceled S.W.A.T. after six seasons.
- Less than 72 hours later: CBS reversed that decision and renewed the series for a shortened seventh season, which was promoted as the final season.
- April 2024: CBS renewed the drama for an eighth season, extending the series again after it had previously been positioned as ending.
- March 6, 2025: CBS announced its third cancellation of the show, this time during Season 8 and before the 14th episode had aired, according to TVLine.
- May 16, 2025: Season 8 concluded after 22 episodes.
- September 15, 2025: Netflix added Season 8 in the United States, completing its collection of the original series.
TVLine reported that Season 8 averaged approximately 4.9 million total viewers using Live+7 delayed-viewing data—about 20% below Season 7—and ranked last among CBS dramas that season in total audience. Those figures provide context for the cancellation but are TVLine’s reported estimates, not an independently audited result presented here as a network statistic.

The original series therefore ends with its eight-season run. Netflix makes the full story easier to access, but it does not extend the 20-Squad storyline into a ninth season.
S.W.A.T. Exiles is a spinoff, not Season 9
The franchise does have a confirmed future project: S.W.A.T. Exiles. Sony Pictures Television announced on June 29, 2026, that Starz would be the U.S. home for the new series, which has also been sold to major international regions.
Exiles is planned as a separate 10-episode spinoff or follow-up. Shemar Moore is returning as Hondo, but the premise places him in a different situation: he comes out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental unit made up of inexperienced recruits.
The announced U.S. premiere date is September 25, 2026. New episodes are scheduled to arrive weekly on Fridays through Starz’s linear channel and streaming/on-demand platforms. That means Exiles was not yet streaming as of the August 12, 2026 research cutoff; its premiere was still upcoming.
