After Cody Rhodes defeated Roman Reigns in the WrestleMania 40 Night Two main event, Reigns and Paul Heyman embraced on the stage as Reigns left. WWE described the gesture as one of “respect, admiration and acknowledgement.” It was a brief post-match moment, not an on-screen explanation of what either man privately felt.
What happened after the match?
WrestleMania 40 Night Two took place in Philadelphia on April 7, 2024. In the main event, Cody Rhodes defeated Reigns in a Bloodline Rules match to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and end Reigns’ championship reign. While Rhodes celebrated in the ring, Reigns and Heyman shared an embrace on the stage or ramp.
WrestleTalk reported that fans first caught the interaction and later reported that WWE shared footage of it. WWE’s April 8, 2024 social post, reproduced by WrestleTalk, called it an “Unseen” moment in which “The Tribal Chief @WWERomanReigns shares a moment of respect, admiration and acknowledgement with his Wiseman @HeymanHustle.”
Why did the embrace stand out?
The gesture came as Reigns’ long championship run ended. WrestleTalk reported that the reign lasted 1,316 days; that figure is WrestleTalk’s reported duration, not an independently verified count here. The embrace gave the loss a quiet personal beat alongside the major in-ring result, with Heyman beside Reigns as he left.
