The “Chainsmokers-approved” AI music producer is ProducerAI. Google announced on February 24, 2026 that ProducerAI was joining Google Labs, rather than explicitly describing a conventional acquisition. By May, Google was presenting the service as Google Flow Music, formerly ProducerAI. The Chainsmokers connection refers to artist involvement and reported backing—not a formal certification or guarantee of quality.
Flow Music is designed as a conversational music-production partner: users can develop lyrics, melodies, arrangements, sounds and instruments through repeated natural-language revisions. It is more ambitious than Gemini’s initial Lyria feature, but it is not a replacement for a digital audio workstation, professional mixing, rights administration or human musicians.
What happened to ProducerAI?
Google’s verified wording is that ProducerAI was “joining Google Labs.” Google Labs is the company’s home for experimental products, and the February announcement described ProducerAI as a standalone creative service using a preview of Google DeepMind’s Lyria 3 model. It did not publish transaction terms that would justify stating, without qualification, that Google acquired the company.
Google later changed the public branding. In a May 6, 2026 announcement, it called the product Google Flow Music and identified it as “formerly ProducerAI,” while announcing a partnership with Believe and TuneCore for participating artists, producers and songwriters. The current product therefore has two useful names: ProducerAI explains the February news story, while Flow Music is the later Google branding.

How Flow Music works
Flow Music is presented as an AI collaborator rather than a one-shot “type a prompt, download a song” generator. A creator can begin with a broad musical idea, then ask the system to revise particular aspects of the result.
Conversational production
- Write or revise lyrics.
- Refine melodies and arrangements.
- Generate complete songs, sounds and effects.
- Explore combinations of genres and production styles.
- Create custom instruments and sound ideas.
- Request changes such as a stronger low end or a different arrangement.
The practical distinction is iteration. Instead of starting over for every change, the user is meant to continue a dialogue with an AI “producer” that coordinates musical decisions.

A connected Google creative stack
Google says the experience combines several of its models and systems:
- Lyria: music generation.
- Gemini: conversation, interpretation and coordination.
- Veo: related music-video generation.
- Nano Banana: image generation, including album artwork.
- SynthID: embedded provenance marking for Google-generated content.
Those integrations describe Google’s product direction, not a promise that every feature, model, export or interface is available in every country, account or plan at all times.
Flow Music versus Lyria in Gemini
Both products use Google’s Lyria technology, but they target different jobs.
| Feature | Gemini with Lyria 3 | Flow Music |
|---|---|---|
| Primary use | Quick, custom soundtrack generation | More involved songwriting and production workflow |
| Launch output | 30-second tracks from text or images | A conversational environment for developing songs; later Lyria versions add longer output |
| Interaction | Prompt-based assistant | AI producer that supports repeated revisions |
| Audience | General Gemini users | Songwriters, producers, musicians and creators |
| Model status | Lyria 3 beta at launch | Lyria 3 preview, followed by Lyria 3 Pro and Lyria 3.5 updates |
| Provenance | SynthID, according to Google | SynthID, according to Google |
Gemini’s launch feature was explicitly limited to short tracks. Google’s later Lyria 3 Pro description says outputs can run up to three minutes and offers more structural control. Do not treat the February Gemini limits as a permanent specification for Flow Music.

What does “Chainsmokers-approved” mean?
Google says ProducerAI was built with and for artists, naming Grammy-winning rapper Lecrae and The Chainsmokers. TechCrunch described the platform as backed by the group and quoted Chainsmokers member Alex Pall. “Approved” is therefore headline shorthand for artist participation or backing, not a legal product category, ownership statement, independent quality certification or guarantee that every generated track meets the group’s standards.
ProducerAI also grew out of the Riffusion project, according to secondary coverage. Google’s own announcement concentrates on the ProducerAI brand and its move into Google Labs, so detailed corporate or personnel history should not be inferred from that background alone.
Access, plans and credit economics
The official pricing page observed in August 2026 listed the following monthly options. Because the product has already been renamed and its models updated, verify the live page and terms before subscribing: producer.ai/pricing?plan=monthly.
| Plan | Listed monthly price | Listed monthly allowance | Approximate songs shown by the page |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Not stated in the supplied pricing signal | Not stated |
| Starter | $8 | 3,000 credits | Approximately 600 songs |
| Plus | $24 | 10,000 credits | Approximately 2,000 songs |
| Member | $64 | 30,000 credits | Approximately 6,000 songs |
The page also listed features such as downloads, stem downloads, publishing, image and video generation and personalization on applicable tiers. “Approximately 600 songs” is a credit estimate, not a promise of 600 finished or usable songs: regeneration, longer outputs, quality settings and concurrent jobs can consume credits at different rates. A paid plan also does not, by itself, prove that every output is cleared for every commercial use.

A safe way to try it
- Visit the official service at producer.ai, noting that the public branding may now say Flow Music.
- Sign in or create an account.
- Review the currently offered free and paid plans.
- Describe a musical idea in natural language.
- Iterate on lyrics, melody, arrangement, instruments, sounds or effects through conversational requests.
- Check the export options available to your account, such as MP3, WAV, M4A or stems.
- Read the current publishing and commercial-use terms before releasing anything.
Google has already changed the name and model generation, so exact menus, model selectors, limits and export rights should be checked in the live interface rather than copied from an older walkthrough.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.SynthID, copyright and release rights
Google says ProducerAI outputs and Gemini Lyria 3 tracks include SynthID, an imperceptible marker intended to help identify Google-generated content. That can support provenance and disclosure, but it is not a copyright registration, ownership grant, licence or guarantee that a recording contains no infringing material.
Google also says Lyria is intended for original expression rather than direct imitation of named artists, and that filters and policies address intellectual-property violations. Google acknowledges that safeguards may not be foolproof. Those statements do not resolve the separate questions of training-data provenance, human authorship, rights in lyrics or samples, likeness concerns, or whether a particular commercial release is permitted.
- Check the current service agreement and publishing rules for your account.
- Confirm whether commercial distribution, stems and downloads are covered by the plan you actually use.
- Keep records of your human contributions and any third-party material.
- Do not request an exact living artist imitation or assume a watermark makes that use lawful.
Who should use Flow Music?
Good fits
- Songwriters who need rapid sketches of lyrics, melodies or arrangements.
- Producers exploring textures, unusual instruments and genre combinations.
- Beginners without a conventional studio setup.
- Video and social creators needing prototypes or background-music ideas.
- Professional musicians looking for an ideation partner rather than a replacement for their studio.
- Artists eligible for Google’s Music AI Sandbox or partner programmes.
Where it is not enough
- A full DAW with precise multitrack, MIDI and plug-in control.
- Professional mixing and mastering.
- Human session performers and detailed performance direction.
- Rights, royalty and label administration.
- Predictable per-song costs for high-volume generation.
Model behavior, limits and available features can change because Flow Music sits within an experimental Google Labs context.

How to judge it against alternatives
When comparing Flow Music with services such as Suno or Udio, compare the workflow rather than assuming one service is universally better.
- Control: Is the tool one-shot, or can it revise a specific section?
- Length: Does it produce short clips, complete songs or longer structured tracks?
- Editing depth: Are sections, stems, instruments and effects controllable?
- Rights: Are publishing and commercial-use permissions explicit for your plan?
- Inputs: Can you use text, images, lyrics, references, audio or MIDI?
- Consistency: Does the arrangement or sound remain stable across revisions?
- Exports: Are MP3, WAV, M4A, stems or project files available?
- Economics: How quickly do credits disappear during regeneration?
- Provenance: What watermarking or labelling is supplied?
- Workflow fit: Do you need ideation, a finished track, background music or production assets?
For a quick soundtrack, Gemini’s Lyria feature may be simpler. For Google-native image, video and conversational integration, Flow Music is the more relevant experiment. For detailed finishing work, plan to move the result into a DAW.
Bottom line
ProducerAI did join Google Labs in February 2026, but the current story is Google Flow Music, formerly ProducerAI. It is best understood as Google’s conversational AI music-production environment, powered by evolving Lyria models and connected to Gemini, Veo, Nano Banana and SynthID. Artist participation from The Chainsmokers helps explain the “approved” label, but it is not formal certification. Try the free access first, treat credit estimates as approximate, and settle commercial and copyright questions from the current terms—not from the subscription price or the presence of a watermark.
