January 29 was listed as the final day to stream in some reports, with January 30 described as the removal date. The exact display can reflect the difference between a title’s last available day and the date it disappears from a platform. [C001] [C002]
The timing has drawn renewed attention because Hulu has ordered a new Prison Break series set in the same fictional universe. It is not a confirmed sixth season, does not center on Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows, and does not currently have an officially announced premiere date.
What happened to Prison Break on Netflix?
In the U.S., Netflix’s run of the original Prison Break ended in late January 2026. Reports identified January 29 as the final streaming day and January 30 as the date the title was removed. All five seasons were included in the reported departure. [C001] [C002]
This update is specific to the United States. Netflix catalogs are licensed country by country, so viewers elsewhere should search their local Netflix catalog rather than assume that the series disappeared everywhere at the same time. Availability can also change without a new reboot-related announcement.

Where can you watch the original series now?
After a Netflix removal, the practical alternatives are a current digital purchase or a physical copy. Prime Video’s U.S. listing has shown the original series available to purchase by individual episode or season, but digital storefront pricing, ownership terms, and availability can change. Check the listing for your country before buying. [C008]
If you want the entire original run without depending on a changing streaming license, look for a Prison Break complete series DVD or a seasons 1–5 DVD/Blu-ray box set. Complete-season DVD listings and a five-season collector’s Blu-ray release have been documented, but listings may be new, used, imported, or region-specific. Confirm the disc format, region compatibility, included seasons, seller, and current availability before ordering. [C010] [C011] [C012]
For viewers who prefer not to use discs, you can also check whether it is possible to buy Prison Break digitally through Prime Video or another authorized store in your region. A digital purchase is not the same as a subscription stream: verify whether you are buying a season or episode, which account receives the license, and whether the title is available on your devices.
Hulu’s new Prison Break is a new story—not Michael and Lincoln’s next chapter
Hulu ordered a new Prison Break series to series in October 2025, after the project had previously received a pilot order. The project shares the original franchise’s fictional world but follows different characters and a new storyline. [C004]
The reported premise centers on an ex-soldier who becomes a corrections officer at one of America’s deadliest prisons. She takes the job to prove how far she is willing to go for someone she loves. Elgin James is attached as writer, showrunner, executive producer, and pilot director. Dawn Olmstead, original creator Paul Scheuring, Marty Adelstein, and Neal Moritz are also executive producers, with 20th Television serving as the studio. [C004]

That makes “reboot” a more accurate description than “season six.” The new series is intended to expand the setting and premise rather than continue the original escape story with the same central duo.
Who is in the new series?
The reported cast includes:
- Emily Browning as Cassidy
- Drake Rodger as Tommy
- Lukas Gage as Jackson
- Clayton Cardenas as Michael, also known as Ghost
- J.R. Bourne as Junior
- Georgie Flores as Andrea
- Myles Bullock as Darius, also known as Red
These are characters associated with the new project. The available reporting does not establish that Wentworth Miller or Dominic Purcell will return as Michael Scofield or Lincoln Burrows. Viewers should therefore be skeptical of listings or social posts describing the project as a direct continuation starring the original leads. [C004] [C005]
When will the Prison Break reboot premiere?
No official premiere date has been announced in the researched material. Some coverage has discussed a possible 2026 release, but that is speculation rather than a confirmed launch date. Production timing and the eventual premiere window remain subject to change. [C006]

When the series does arrive, Hulu’s official distribution information says that episodes will stream on Hulu in the United States and through Hulu within Disney+ for eligible bundle subscribers. The series is also planned to premiere on Disney+ internationally. That distribution plan does not identify Netflix as a destination for the reboot. [C007]
If you want to watch the new Prison Break reboot, treat Hulu and Disney+ as the currently reported platforms, not as an active title-specific subscription recommendation. Availability, bundle requirements, and any commercial partner program should be verified closer to launch.
What the original Prison Break is about
The original Fox series ran for four seasons beginning in 2005, followed by a fifth event season in 2017. Its central story follows structural engineer Michael Scofield, who deliberately gets himself imprisoned after his brother, Lincoln Burrows, is framed and sentenced to death. Michael’s plan is to help Lincoln escape from prison. [C009]

The show began as a prison-escape thriller but expanded into a broader conspiracy and fugitive drama as the seasons progressed. The fifth season returned to the franchise years later as an event series, which is why the complete original run is generally described as five seasons rather than four.

The Bottom Line
The U.S. Netflix removal has already happened. For the original five-season series, check authorized digital storefronts or choose a complete DVD/Blu-ray set after confirming the region and included seasons. For the reboot, expect a separate Hulu/Disney+ project with a new cast and premise—but wait for an official premiere date and do not assume it will be on Netflix.
