Pokémon Horizons gives the anime a new center: Liko and Roy take the lead, while a traveling ensemble and an ongoing mystery replace the familiar Ash-led framework. That is a meaningful change in setup, though it does not by itself prove the series is stronger or more compelling episode to episode. The clearest case for trying it is the new pair of protagonists and a continuing adventure; viewers who prefer stories that can be watched in almost any order may find the larger plot less convenient.

What is different about Pokémon Horizons?

The change starts with the protagonists. Liko is an Indigo Academy student learning to become a better Trainer alongside Sprigatito. Roy is a young Trainer traveling with Fuecoco. Their story brings in the Rising Volt Tacklers, a group of adventurers, and the Explorers, an opposing group. Liko’s mysterious pendant and Roy’s unusual Poké Ball give the series a pair of unanswered questions to carry forward.

That makes Horizons a fresh entry point rather than a continuation of Ash’s journey. The useful comparison is not whether Liko and Roy recreate Ash’s role, but whether their different perspectives and relationships give the adventure its own identity. The larger cast can broaden the story beyond two young Trainers, but it also asks the series to divide attention among more characters.

Does the continuing mystery make the story more engaging?

The official premise puts exploration and mysteries alongside the familiar Pokémon adventure. The current story develops that serialized approach: Season 3, Rising Hope, takes place after the events in Laqua. Its synopsis describes a mysterious pink mist harming Pokémon, the Rising Volt Tacklers lacking both a leader and a clear way forward, and Liko, Roy, Dot, and Ult training, rebuilding the group, and confronting the Explorers.

That structure offers a reason to follow the characters from one episode to the next, rather than treating every adventure as a separate stop. It may also make it harder to dip in casually if important developments depend on earlier episodes. The premise establishes the continuing plot; how effectively its mysteries build suspense, and how much context a new viewer needs, depends on the episodes themselves.

Is Pokémon Horizons worth watching?

If you want a new pair of leads, a wider traveling cast, and a story with an ongoing mystery, Pokémon Horizons has a clear reason to try it. The official framing still includes exploration, Pokémon encounters, training, and battles, so the change is in the story’s point of view and shape, not in leaving the Pokémon-adventure format behind.

A fair verdict on the drama requires watching the relevant episodes: a premise cannot establish whether Liko and Roy have enough agency, whether the mystery keeps its momentum, or whether battles and quieter character scenes are well balanced. Those are the questions that distinguish a promising setup from a satisfying season. If your main preference is stand-alone adventures with minimal continuity, the ongoing Laqua-related plot is a reason to sample an episode before committing to the season.

How does it compare with the Ash anime?

The central structural difference is clear: the Ash-era anime is associated with one long-established hero, while Horizons introduces Liko and Roy as leads and gives a larger ensemble a prominent place. Its official premise also foregrounds keepsakes and mysteries, and the current-season synopsis continues a larger story connected to Laqua. Whether that makes the show faster-moving, more emotionally involving, or less accessible is a matter of execution, not something the premise alone settles.

For a practical comparison, look at three things as you watch: whose choices move the story, how much continuity each episode assumes, and how the episodes divide their time among exploration, character relationships, training, and battles. Those are better measures of fit than expecting the new leads to function as copies of Ash.

What does Rising Hope add to the story?

Rising Hope pushes the ensemble and the wider conflict further into the foreground. In the official Season 3 synopsis, Liko, Roy, Dot, and Ult train and work to rebuild the Rising Volt Tacklers while facing the Explorers. Roy’s newer yellow Lucario is described as capable of Mega Evolution. The Pokémon Company International’s official Season 3 page lists 47 episodes; that is the count on that page, not a guarantee that every regional streaming catalogue presents the season in the same way.

The Pokémon Company International announced that Rising Hope Part 2 would arrive on Netflix in the United States on March 20, 2026. The announcement, dated February 20, 2026, describes a search for traces of Laquium, further training, and Ult’s interest in the Pokémon inside his Dusk Ball. In the UK, the company announced on July 20, 2026, that new episodes would be available on BBC iPlayer. These are region-specific announcements, not a worldwide availability guide.

Where can you watch it, and which version are you reviewing?

Streaming availability and catalogue details vary by region and can change. The Pokémon Company International’s cited announcements name Netflix for the US release of Rising Hope Part 2 and BBC iPlayer for new UK episodes. A Netflix regional catalogue listing observed for this title labels its page 2024 and shows 45 episodes, with audio and subtitle options listed there. Those details describe that regional listing; they should not be treated as a universal episode count or catalogue specification.

For a season review or a recommendation to someone else, identify the country, season or release batch, and language track you watched. That makes clear which version your comments concern, especially when episode availability and language options differ between regional catalogues.

Is Pokémon Horizons good for kids?

Common Sense Media describes themes of teamwork, friendship, loyalty, and responsibility, and notes fantasy battles, chases, attempted theft, and dangerous leaps. These are its content-guide observations, not an official age rating. The British Board of Film Classification lists classifications and content descriptors by episode; its catalogue includes Season 2 entries classified in 2026 with descriptors such as violence, threat, and dangerous behaviour. An episode-specific record is more useful to parents than applying one episode’s descriptor to the entire series.

For a child who is sensitive to peril or fighting, check the listing for the specific episode and region before watching. For younger fans who want an off-screen activity, Scholastic Canada’s Spring 2026 bookseller catalogue lists Pokémon Horizons colouring and activity products; check a local retailer for the current edition and availability.
