The film’s focus is broader than one city or one clinical issue: it connects care access, the experiences of families and practitioners, and the consequences of policy. It should not be confused with Aftershock, a separate 2022 documentary about Black maternal mortality that includes Tulsa birth-options footage.
Why does the local context matter?
A 2021 report by The Frontier, published alongside a local panel, said Black Oklahomans were 50% more likely than white Oklahomans to die from maternity-related complications.
