Spoilers for Peacemaker Season 2, episode “Full Nelson.” The finale gives Chris Smith a measure of emotional support and introduces Checkmate, a new group formed by his allies. Then Rick Flag Sr. has Chris abducted and sent without informed consent to Salvation, a world A.R.G.U.S. wants to use as a prison for metahumans. James Gunn has said the finale’s events and the Flag-Luthor partnership connect to Man of Tomorrow, but the episode does not reveal the film’s plot or confirm a Peacemaker appearance.
What happens in “Full Nelson”?
After the alternate-world events of the preceding episode, Chris returns to the main DCU, gives up the Quantum Unfolding Chamber and submits to custody, hoping to keep his friends out of danger. His allies later help him out of prison and challenge his belief that he alone is responsible for the tragedies around him.
That support leads to the formation of Checkmate with former A.R.G.U.S. associates. The apparent resolution does not last: A.R.G.U.S. agents abduct Chris, and Flag sends him through a portal to Salvation. Chris is left alone as the doorway closes; a growl from somewhere in the distance ends the episode. TheWrap’s finale recap details the turn and the cliffhanger.
What is Salvation in Peacemaker?
In the episode, Salvation is a seemingly habitable world A.R.G.U.S. reached through dimensional exploration using the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. Flag proposes it as a prison for metahumans. The finale does not establish the planet’s full ecology, whether it is truly empty, or what made the sound Chris hears at the end.

Why did Rick Flag send Peacemaker there?
Flag presents Chris as a test subject: he wants to study how the environment affects a human body. He also makes clear that the decision is personal revenge for Chris killing his son, Rick Flag Jr. Although Flag says Chris volunteered, the episode shows the consent was falsified; Chris is abducted and sent to Salvation without informed consent.
Is Salvation from the comics?
The closest comics parallel is Salvation Run, a story built around supervillains being sent to a remote planet. That is useful context, not proof the DCU will repeat the comic’s plot. Gunn has said the screen versions borrow concepts from comics without needing to reproduce them exactly, as TV Insider reported. TheWrap also discusses the Salvation Run comparison.

What is Checkmate, and who joins?
In “Full Nelson,” Checkmate is the group Chris and his allies form as an alternative to A.R.G.U.S. and its treatment of metahumans. Its members are:
- Chris Smith / Peacemaker
- Emilia Harcourt
- Leota Adebayo
- Adrian Chase / Vigilante
- John Economos
- Sasha Bordeaux
- Langston Fleury
- Rip Jagger / Judomaster
Checkmate also has a comics history; TheWrap reports that the organization debuted in Action Comics #598. The DCU team’s purpose and continuity need not match that version. TheWrap’s comics-history coverage gives further context.

Gunn has said Checkmate will continue in the DCU: “You’ll definitely see Checkmate carrying through. They’re a thing now, so they’re a part of what’s gonna happen, and I think they’re gonna be really, really good at what they do.” He also indicated that the group’s circumstances may change by its next appearance. That confirms the team’s continuation, not an announced standalone Checkmate series. TV Insider’s October 10, 2025 report attributes the comments to Gunn.
How does the finale set up Man of Tomorrow?
Gunn connected the finale’s ending, the government’s actions toward metahumans and the new partnership between Rick Flag Sr. and Lex Luthor to the future story of Man of Tomorrow. As GamesRadar+ reported, he said: “Where Chris is at the end, what is happening between the government and the metahumans, Rick and Lex’s new partnership, and all of their decision to do what they did is all a part of the future, [Man of Tomorrow], and more.”

What Gunn confirmed
- The finale’s events are part of the broader future story he has in mind for Man of Tomorrow.
- The government-metahuman conflict and the Flag-Luthor partnership are among the connections.
- Checkmate will carry forward in the DCU, though that statement does not by itself specify where or when the team will next appear.
What remains unconfirmed
- The finale does not confirm that Peacemaker will appear in Man of Tomorrow.
- It does not establish Salvation as the movie’s main setting or explain how Chris will leave the planet.
- The creature behind the growl is unidentified. Claims that it is a specific comics character or a New God are speculation.
- No specific villain, full film plot or Checkmate spin-off is confirmed by these statements.
The distinction matters: Gunn confirmed a broad narrative link, not the cliffhanger’s resolution or a particular character’s role in the film.

Yes. TechRadar reports two end-credit scenes. One extends a conversation about whether Salvation needs a barrier to prevent escape. They add a brief beat to the finale but do not confirm a larger plot reveal.
