The 95th Academy Awards took place on Sunday, March 12, 2023. In the United States, ABC broadcast the ceremony live at 8 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Pacific. Viewers could stream ABC through ABC.com or the ABC app with an eligible TV-provider login, or use a live-TV streaming service carrying their local ABC affiliate.
This is a historical guide to the 2023 ceremony—not a current guide to the next Oscars.

The Academy confirmed the date, venue and international distribution in its official announcement. ABC published the ceremony’s U.S. broadcast time in its 2023 viewing guide.
How to stream the Oscars on ABC
ABC’s official online route was available through ABC.com and the ABC app. It was not a universally free internet stream: viewers generally needed a participating TV-provider account, and availability was limited to eligible markets.

- Visit ABC.com or open the ABC app.
- Open the Live section or find the Oscars listing.
- Select the verification or provider sign-in option.
- Choose your TV provider.
- Enter the provider username and password.
- Return to the ABC live stream and start playback.
ABC listed support for smartphones, tablets, computers, Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV. Its provider-login support page explains that an unsupported provider, an ineligible package or a market restriction can prevent access.
How cord-cutters could watch
Without cable or satellite, the legitimate alternatives were live-TV streaming services that carried the viewer’s local ABC station. Contemporary coverage identified these options:

Before subscribing, enter your ZIP code on the service’s channel-availability page and confirm that your local ABC affiliate is included. A service can operate nationally while omitting ABC in a particular market.

For reference, the relevant service destinations are Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM. Current prices, plans and promotions should not be confused with prices or offers from March 2023.
Was regular Hulu enough?
No. For the 2023 ceremony, viewers needed Hulu + Live TV—not simply a standard Hulu on-demand subscription—to receive the ABC broadcast online.
Later Oscars editions changed Hulu’s role, and the Academy’s current How to Watch page concerns newer distribution arrangements. It should not be used as evidence of what was available for the 2023 Oscars.

Could you watch for free?
There were three possible no-additional-cost routes, depending on the viewer’s circumstances:
- Over-the-air ABC: An antenna could receive a local ABC affiliate for free if the signal reached the home. This was broadcast television, not an internet stream.
- Existing provider account: An eligible cable, satellite or other participating TV-provider login could unlock ABC.com or the ABC app.
- Conditional streaming trial: A live-TV service might offer a trial to an eligible new customer, but trials, payment requirements, renewal terms and availability were not guaranteed.
Anyone using a trial needed to check the renewal price and cancellation deadline immediately. Offers change and should not be treated as permanent viewing options.

The red carpet was separate from the main ceremony. ABC promoted “On The Red Carpet Live: Countdown to Oscars 95” for March 12, with a listed start time of 1 p.m. Eastern and an end time of 4 p.m. Eastern.

The Academy said the 95th Oscars were broadcast in more than 200 territories worldwide. However, there was no single universal international stream identified in the U.S. viewing guide. Viewers outside the United States needed to check their local broadcaster, television listings or territory-specific Academy information.
U.S. ABC authentication and American live-TV services should not be assumed to work abroad. Availability, rights and start times depended on the country.

Troubleshooting the online stream
Your ZIP code has no ABC affiliate
Try another live-TV service, check ABC’s provider options, or use an antenna if a local ABC signal is receivable.
ABC says your provider is unsupported
Confirm that you selected the correct provider, verify that your package included the relevant channel, and try signing out and back in. If the provider does not participate, use its own live-TV app or another eligible service.
You have Hulu but cannot find the broadcast
Standard Hulu was not sufficient for the 2023 ceremony. The required product was Hulu + Live TV with local ABC availability.
The app or browser will not play video
Sign in before the scheduled start, update the app, restart the device and try ABC.com or another supported device. If the issue is provider authentication rather than playback, contact the TV provider or use another viewing route.

The ceremony occurred on March 12, 2023. This guide does not promise that the complete broadcast remains available on ABC, Hulu or another service. Look for official Academy or ABC highlights and winner information instead of assuming the original live stream is still active.

The services and authentication rules above describe the 2023 U.S. broadcast arrangement. Product names, prices, free trials, local-channel lineups and Oscars streaming rights can change.
