First decide whether you need a scheduled event or an always-on channel
A pre-recorded YouTube Live can mean a single video that airs at a set time, or a channel that keeps playing a video or playlist around the clock. Those are different workflows. A scheduled simulive event handles a particular broadcast; it does not, by itself, prove that a service can loop content continuously.
- One scheduled broadcast: OBS can send a live encoder stream while you operate the playback locally. Cloud services including Castr, StreamYard, and Restream document scheduled pre-recorded event workflows, subject to their own conditions and limits.
- Continuous playlist: Confirm that the provider explicitly offers continuous looping and check which plan includes it. Castr describes continuous playlist looping, with infinite loop listed for Premium and higher; verify current plan limits before subscribing. Castr’s pre-recorded streaming page
OBS versus cloud playout

When OBS is the better fit
Use a local encoder when you want hands-on control over the broadcast and have a computer and connection available for the full stream. This can suit a one-off pre-recorded event when you want to manage the local playback and live scene yourself. It also avoids a cloud-playout subscription, though that does not make the local setup cost-free: the equipment and connection still need to be available.

- You are comfortable managing playback and the live session. The sources cited here do not verify current, click-by-click OBS settings for looping a media source, so consult current OBS documentation for those implementation details.
When a cloud service is the better fit
Cloud playout is a better match when the goal is unattended scheduling or continuous playback without keeping a home computer running. Do not assume all pre-recorded streaming services offer an always-on channel: compare continuous-loop support, scheduling, playlist capacity, duration limits, destinations, and price.
What the documented services offer

Set up the YouTube destination and schedule
YouTube’s live-stream controls let you manage the destination and stream details. A scheduled stream may appear to subscribers as upcoming, and viewers can choose “Notify me.” Use YouTube’s current interface to create or manage the scheduled stream, and follow its encoder instructions if using OBS. For encoder-based streaming, YouTube’s setup uses a stream URL and stream key. Treat the key as a credential: enter it only in the encoder or service you intend to use, and do not publish or share it. Rights and monetization apply to both approaches
Using OBS or a cloud service does not grant permission to rebroadcast a recording. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation of the live content, including music licensing rights. Check permissions for the complete recording, including music, footage, and other material. YouTube livestream terms and conditions
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams. In its July 15, 2025 policy update, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and says repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible for monetization. Reused-content review is separate from copyright permission, so owning or licensing material does not by itself establish monetization eligibility. YouTube also says ad slots on eligible monetized live streams are not guaranteed to serve; do not treat a continuous loop as guaranteed ad revenue. Troubleshooting a pre-recorded YouTube Live
- The stream stops when you leave: In a local encoder workflow, the computer and internet connection must remain available during transmission. For unattended playback, use a cloud workflow that explicitly supports it.
- A scheduled event airs once but does not keep playing: Scheduling a pre-recorded event is not proof of continuous looping. Check that the selected service and plan offer a continuous playlist loop.
- The YouTube link is not available when expected: Link timing can depend on the service’s scheduling workflow. StreamYard’s help page says its YouTube link appears at the announcement time, or when the stream goes live if there is no announcement scheduled. Check the service’s current instructions and the YouTube event settings.
- The stream does not connect: For an encoder workflow, check that the YouTube stream URL and key are entered correctly in the chosen encoder. Consult YouTube’s current encoder setup guide; do not share the stream key publicly.
- A stream is interrupted: A local workflow depends on the computer and connection staying available. If unattended continuity matters, confirm whether the cloud provider offers recovery after YouTube drops a stream; provider behavior and terms vary.
- A video is blocked or monetization is unavailable: Review rights for every part of the recording and YouTube’s separate copyright and monetization policies. Permission to use content does not guarantee monetization eligibility.
How to choose
Choose OBS for a locally operated broadcast when you can keep the computer online and value direct control. Choose a cloud service for unattended playback, and verify that it supports the exact job: a scheduled single event or a continuous 24/7 playlist. For the latter, look for explicit looping support rather than inferring it from a pre-recorded scheduling feature.
