If OBS Studio cannot connect to YouTube Live over Airtel broadband, first verify the server URL and stream key in YouTube Live Control Room, then check OBS and your local network before concluding that Airtel is responsible. A failed connection by itself does not establish an Airtel block: the same symptom can come from an incorrect endpoint, VPN or security software, router or cable faults, or a network route to YouTube’s ingest server.
Start by identifying what failed
Check the exact OBS message and when it appears. A timeout or “failed to connect” points you first toward the configured URL, RTMPS support, or the network path. An SSL or certificate error can point to a wrong server name or port. If OBS connects but drops frames or disconnects intermittently, that is a different symptom from never establishing a connection.
YouTube says to use RTMPS for its encrypted stream path: both the protocol and server should be rtmps, not just rtmp. Its guidance notes that a timeout can occur if the URL is incorrect or the encoder does not support RTMPS. SSL errors can also result from an incorrect server or port. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions and the YouTube Live RTMPS developer guide describe these connection checks.
Verify YouTube’s server URL and stream key
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and copy the server URL and stream key shown for your stream. Use the URL supplied for your own session in preference to an old saved address.
- In OBS Studio, open Settings > Stream. Select YouTube if you are using OBS’s service integration, or choose the custom server option if that is how your setup is configured. Paste the server URL into the server field and the key into the stream key field.
- Check the protocol spelling. For YouTube’s encrypted ingest, the URL should begin with
rtmps://, notrtmp://. - Check the port if the encoder allows it. YouTube says port 443 may be specified for RTMPS where supported. OBS Studio’s current YouTube service configuration lists
rtmps://a.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2as its primary URL andrtmps://b.rtmps.youtube.com:443/live2?backup=1as its backup. These OBS entries can change; use the address in your Live Control Room first. OBS Studio’s YouTube service configuration lists those endpoints. - Protect the key. Do not include your stream key in screenshots, logs, or public support posts. If it has been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
Do not begin by forwarding inbound ports on your router. OBS is making an outbound connection to YouTube; the official RTMPS guidance emphasizes the correct encrypted URL and port rather than opening inbound router ports.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check OBS network settings
Change one setting at a time, try connecting again, and note the outcome so the test narrows the cause rather than adding more uncertainty.
- Bind to IP: In OBS network settings, leave Bind to IP at its default setting for the initial test.
- IPv4-only diagnostic: If you suspect an IPv4/IPv6 interaction, try IPv4-only as a diagnostic. If it does not help, restore the default.
- Windows options: OBS’s connection guide also suggests testing Network Optimizations and TCP pacing on Windows.

Isolate VPN, firewall, and antivirus interference
- Temporarily disconnect from a VPN and retry the same YouTube stream.
- If there is no change, check whether firewall or antivirus network inspection is interfering with OBS.
- Only disable security protection briefly for a controlled test, then restore it. If the test implicates security software, use a targeted OBS exception rather than leaving protection off.
If changing one of these variables changes the result, that is useful evidence of a local software or network-path issue; it does not by itself identify the precise component.
Test the router, connection, and cable
- Restart the modem and router, then retry OBS.
- If you are on Wi-Fi, test over Ethernet if practical. Connect directly to the router where possible, removing an extender or switch from the path for the test.
- Inspect or swap a suspect network cable. OBS lists cables, network cards, routers, modems, switches, and extenders among possible hardware causes. A replacement cable is relevant only if the local wired path is suspect; it cannot fix an incorrect URL or an ISP route.
The OBS Project guide says intermittent disconnections or dropped frames indicate a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server; congestion and hardware along that path can be involved. This observation does not identify Airtel as the cause of a particular failed connection.

Compare Airtel with another network
If available, keep the same computer, OBS configuration, stream key, and settings, then try a phone hotspot or another ISP. You can also test the YouTube backup endpoint shown in OBS’s service configuration if it is available in your setup. Record what changes, and avoid changing several variables at once.
- If the same setup fails on Airtel and another network, revisit the URL, key, OBS, and computer.
- If it works repeatedly on another network but fails on Airtel, an Airtel-side route or another issue on that path becomes more plausible. The comparison does not prove an Airtel policy or reveal the exact cause.
- If only one endpoint fails, note whether the primary or backup address was used; that helps distinguish an endpoint-specific symptom from a general connection failure.
When and how to contact Airtel
If local checks do not resolve the problem, OBS recommends contacting your ISP about persistent connection issues. Provide enough detail to make the report actionable:

- The exact OBS error and whether it is a timeout, SSL error, or a connection that later drops.
- Whether the test used Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and whether changing the cable or bypassing extra network hardware made a difference.
- Whether the same computer and OBS setup worked on a phone hotspot or another ISP.
- Whether you tested the primary or backup YouTube endpoint.
- An OBS log, shared privately with support after checking that it does not expose your stream key.
This is a practical evidence checklist, not a published Airtel support requirement. No authoritative, current Airtel-specific confirmation establishes that Airtel blocks YouTube RTMP or RTMPS. Keep the cause open until the comparison results or Airtel’s investigation clarify it.
