Same-day coverage and organizers put attendance at around or above 10,000; a later analysis estimated at least 20,000. Those figures use different methods, and neither is an official count.
Where did the Oakland No Kings march go?
Bay Resistance’s event listing asked participants to gather by noon at Wilma Chan Park, 810 Jackson Street. The march was scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. and proceed through downtown Oakland to the Lake Merritt Amphitheater for a rally. KTVU and KQED also reported that route. (Bay Resistance event listing; KTVU; KQED)
How many people attended?
Coverage published on October 18 reported attendance around or above 10,000, while a post-event analysis reported on October 23 estimated at least 20,000. The figures should remain distinct: they came from different sources, at different times, using different approaches.
| Estimate | Source and timing | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| More than 10,000 | Indivisible East Bay, as reported by KTVU on October 18, 2025 | An organizer-attributed same-day estimate; not an official attendance census. |
| At least 20,000 | Distributed Sound Collective analysis, reported by Bay Area Telegraph on October 23, 2025 | A retrospective estimate based on inferred occupancy along the moving march route; not an official count. |
KTVU reported that Indivisible East Bay said more than 10,000 people marched peacefully. KQED likewise reported an organizer estimate topping 10,000. The San Francisco Chronicle later described turnout as roughly 10,000. These reports do not establish an independently verified total. (KTVU; KQED; San Francisco Chronicle)

Why the estimates differ
The Distributed Sound Collective, a volunteer crew that provides audio support at Bay Area demonstrations, said its analysis estimated the full moving march footprint rather than relying only on a snapshot at the rally site. Its October 23 account said the march filled the full 0.9-mile route on wide streets at peak. It also described synchronized organizer Signal messages indicating that the front and rear of the march were at different points along the route at the same time. The collective called its 20,000-plus figure reasonable and likely conservative, but acknowledged timing could introduce error and that its method did not fully account for people on sidewalks or people who went directly to the amphitheater. (Bay Area Telegraph’s account of the analysis)
The earlier figures near 10,000 were produced quickly and may reflect point-in-time counts at rally sites, according to that account. With no authoritative census reconciling the methods, the most accurate description is that same-day reporting put the crowd around or above 10,000, while a later route-occupancy analysis estimated at least 20,000.

What were marchers and speakers concerned about?
Local reporting described recurring concerns about immigration enforcement and ICE, National Guard deployments, health care cuts, jobs, democracy, pollution and climate policy. KTVU also reported that organizers were promoting California Proposition 50. These were concerns voiced by participants and organizations at the event, not a single formal statement of every marcher’s views. (KQED; KTVU; Oakland North)
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee and U.S. Representative Lateefah Simon were among the speakers identified in KTVU’s coverage. KTVU quoted Lee saying, “Presidents are elected, not anointed. But Donald Trump wants to be a king.” It quoted Simon saying, “I want to be clear that we are in fact living in the midnight of our democracy.” (KTVU)

KQED reported that police were barely visible at the Oakland event, aside from traffic control around Lake Merritt and observation from the Alameda County Courthouse.
