Today’s NYT Connections is game #742, published Sunday, June 22, 2025. Try the graduated clues first; the complete categories and word sets follow. Because the daily puzzle releases at midnight in each player’s timezone, “today” may fall on a different calendar date where you are.
Hints for Connections #742
Use these from top to bottom for gradually more revealing clues.
- Yellow: Breaking developments or updates, locally or globally.
- Green: Nouns found in a famous American document.
- Blue: Titles associated with a popular television network.
- Purple: Each word can be connected to a four-letter word opposite of “right.”
What are today’s Connections answers?
The board’s sixteen words are PORT, PURSUIT, PROGRESSIVE, SUCCESSION, HAPPINESS, DEPARTED, FLASH, LIBERTY, WIRE, EUPHORIA, REMAINING, ENTOURAGE, INSECURE, BULLETIN, LIFE, and REPORT.
| Color | Category | Words |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow | News announcement | BULLETIN, FLASH, REPORT, WIRE |
| Green | Nouns from a famous line in the Declaration of Independence | HAPPINESS, LIBERTY, LIFE, PURSUIT |
| Blue | HBO shows | ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE, SUCCESSION |
| Purple | What “left” might mean | DEPARTED, PORT, PROGRESSIVE, REMAINING |
Why the trickiest group is “left”
The purple category hinges on several meanings and associations of “left”: someone may have departed, port is the nautical direction, progressive can describe left-wing politics, and remaining can mean what is left. It is less direct than the other three groups, which rely on news terminology, a familiar quotation, and television titles.

Why WIRE does not belong with the HBO shows
ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, and SUCCESSION can make WIRE look like a plausible fourth television title. But the intended set is ENTOURAGE, EUPHORIA, INSECURE, and SUCCESSION; WIRE belongs with BULLETIN, FLASH, and REPORT in the news-announcement group.
The Declaration of Independence connection
The green words appear in the familiar phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” The puzzle treats LIFE, LIBERTY, PURSUIT, and HAPPINESS as the four nouns from that line.

How Connections works
The New York Times Help Center describes Connections as a game in which players receive sixteen words and find four groups of four that share something in common. Each group has a color—yellow, green, blue, or purple—with yellow the easiest and purple the trickiest. There is one solution to each puzzle, even though individual words may seem to fit more than one theme. See the NYT Connections Help Center for game details.

The Help Center says the daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. It lists the NYT Games website, Games app, News app, and nytimes.com/theathletic as ways to access Connections, and describes the game as free to play on those platforms. Eligible All Access and Games subscribers can play the archive back to June 12, 2023, according to the Help Center; check its current access information for terms that may have changed.
