- Yellow: Four things you might use while fishing.
- Green: Words that can describe a large crowd or quantity.
- Blue: Basketball violations involving how a player handles or interferes with the ball.
- Purple: Things whose settings or movement can be controlled with up and down buttons.

How Connections works
Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four words that share a theme. The groups are marked yellow, green, blue, and purple, in increasing difficulty order, with yellow the easiest and purple the trickiest. The New York Times says each puzzle has exactly one solution and that its editors curate words and categories using the Oxford Dictionary. NYT Games: Connections
When the daily puzzle is available
The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. It is available on the NYT Games website and apps, and the game is free to play. The official historical archive, which goes back to June 12, 2023, is available to All Access and Games subscribers. NYT Games help: Connections
