Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man gives Tommy Shelby a wartime reckoning, but its grim mood does not guarantee a satisfying farewell. The film’s strongest case is the fraught father-son story between Cillian Murphy’s Tommy and Barry Keoghan’s character; whether that is enough depends on how much resolution you want from a feature following six seasons of television. TechRadar’s Jasmine Valentine found the ending and its bleakness unsatisfying, while CinemaBlend’s Riley Utley judged it a worthy conclusion. Those contrasting reviews capture the film’s central tension: it aims for a punishing reckoning, not an easy victory lap.
Does The Immortal Man deliver a satisfying finale?
It delivers a continuation with the scale and shadows of a finale, but its success as a send-off is open to interpretation. Netflix’s official synopsis places Tommy in Birmingham in 1940, amid World War II, drawn back from self-imposed exile to confront his family and legacy. That setup turns the film toward reckoning rather than simply another gangland power struggle.
For Valentine, the return does not make the conclusion feel earned: her TechRadar review calls the movie an “obligation ending” and criticizes its bleakness, conclusion, and reliance on new characters. Utley’s CinemaBlend review reaches the other side of the question, calling it a “methodical yet high-octane and worthy conclusion.” She sees the film as a farewell to one Shelby generation and an introduction to another. These are distinct critical readings, not evidence of a shared verdict.
What gives the film its emotional force?
Tommy’s return from exile
The premise puts Tommy’s legacy at the center, asking what remains of him after withdrawal from the life that defined him. That can give the feature a clear dramatic purpose: the past is not merely a backdrop but the thing he must answer for. Valentine’s criticism suggests the premise does not fully convert into satisfying resolution; Utley’s more positive reading finds the methodical approach worthwhile.

A father-son conflict
Keoghan’s presence gives the story a generational counterweight to Murphy’s returning lead. Utley particularly praises the two actors and the father-son dynamic, reading it as the bridge between an ending and a possible new beginning. That relationship is the strongest argument for the film working as more than an extended epilogue. The available reviews do not establish that every thread from the series is resolved, so viewers should not approach it expecting a comprehensive answer to every long-running question.
Is the bleak tone earned or exhausting?
The film’s darkness is part of its promise and its risk. A story about a destructive reckoning in wartime can make a bleak register feel appropriate; sustained misery can also leave a viewer with little emotional payoff. Valentine found the tone draining and the ending unsatisfying. She nevertheless praised the soundtrack, lighting, and tributes to Helen McCrory. Utley’s review emphasizes the film’s energy and performances rather than treating the grimness as a reason to dismiss it.

That split is useful for deciding whether to watch: if you want the series’ world to culminate in a clean, triumphant send-off, the critical reservations matter. If you are interested in a darker character reckoning and a story that shifts attention toward the next generation, Utley’s assessment offers a more favorable case.
Does it work for newcomers?
The film is positioned as a return to Tommy Shelby’s story after the six-season series, not as a separate introduction to the world. The official synopsis gives the immediate setup, but the reviewed coverage does not objectively establish how accessible the film is to someone unfamiliar with the show. For the clearest emotional context around Tommy’s family and legacy, watch the series first; returning viewers are the audience best placed to weigh the feature as a conclusion.

Where can you watch it?
Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man premiered in select cinemas on March 6, 2026, and arrived on Netflix on March 20, 2026, according to Netflix’s official trailer. The theatrical release was limited to select cinemas, not a universal rollout. The Associated Press also reported the Netflix date and noted that all six series seasons were available there for catching up at that time. Streaming catalogs can differ by territory, so check your local Netflix listing for current availability.
CinemaBlend lists the movie’s runtime as 112 minutes and its US rating as R for violence, language, some drug use, and nudity. Those are details from that review listing, not a universal classification; ratings vary by territory.

Verdict
Watch it if you want to see Tommy’s story continue as a dark, performance-led reckoning, particularly for the conflict between Murphy and Keoghan. Go in with measured expectations if what you need is an unequivocal, emotionally restorative finale: critics disagree on whether the film’s bleakness earns its ending, and its feature-length conclusion is not guaranteed to settle every expectation built over six seasons.
