| Color | Category | Words | What connects them |

| Green | Collect, as from an orchard | GATHER, HARVEST, PICK, REAP | Each word can describe collecting crops or produce. |
| Blue | Photoshop tools | ERASER, EYEDROPPER, LASSO, MAGIC WAND | Each is the name of a tool in Adobe Photoshop. |

Why was Connections #621 difficult?
Connections #621 mixed ordinary meanings with specialist software vocabulary and a physical-design property. That combination makes the correct groups less obvious than a grid in which every category uses the same kind of relationship.

Why do ANSWER, FIX, REMEDY and SOLUTION belong together?
ANSWER, FIX, REMEDY and SOLUTION are all ways of addressing a problem. The group is comparatively direct, although ERASER and MAGIC WAND can initially suggest fixing or changing something. The intended yellow category is about problem-solving language, not editing an image.
Why do GATHER, HARVEST, PICK and REAP belong together?
GATHER, HARVEST, PICK and REAP are verbs associated with collecting crops or produce. PICK is the important trap: the word can also bring GUITAR to mind because of a guitar pick. In the agricultural context, however, PICK belongs with orchard and harvest vocabulary.
Rank #4
Why are ERASER, EYEDROPPER, LASSO and MAGIC WAND a group?
ERASER, EYEDROPPER, LASSO and MAGIC WAND are Photoshop tools. The category depends on recognizing image-editing software terms rather than treating each word as an everyday object or action. Readers who do not use Photoshop may need the blue hint before this set becomes clear.
What is the purple category in Connections #621?
The purple category is objects that may be right- or left-handed: BASEBALL GLOVE, CAN OPENER, GOLF CLUB and GUITAR. The connection is not a shared definition. These objects can have designs or customary configurations suited to a user’s dominant hand.

Best Value
A baseball glove is made for a particular catching hand. Can openers, golf clubs and guitars can also be manufactured or configured for right-handed or left-handed users. The category is difficult because the words are connected by how an object is designed or used, rather than by what the object means.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What are the biggest traps in Connections #621?
| Potential trap | Why it looks plausible | How to resolve it |
|---|---|---|
| ERASER with FIX | An eraser can remove an error, making it seem like a way to fix something. | Reserve ERASER for the Photoshop-tools group once EYEDROPPER, LASSO and MAGIC WAND are recognized. |
| MAGIC WAND with problem-solving words | A magic wand might figuratively solve a difficult problem. | Read MAGIC WAND as a software tool, not as an imaginary solution. |
| PICK with GUITAR | A guitar pick is a familiar phrase. | Use PICK in its verb sense—collecting produce—with GATHER, HARVEST and REAP. |
| GUITAR in a music-related group | GUITAR strongly suggests musical equipment. | Look for the less obvious handedness connection with BASEBALL GLOVE, CAN OPENER and GOLF CLUB. |
| Purple’s object relationship | The four purple words do not share a normal category label such as a profession or activity. | Ask whether each object has a right-handed and left-handed version or configuration. |
How does the Connections game work?
Connections presents 16 words and asks players to divide them into four groups of four based on shared connections. Each word belongs to only one intended group, although several words may appear to fit more than one category before the final solution is found. The game’s conventional color order runs from yellow, generally easiest, through green and blue to purple, generally hardest.
A practical solving method is to start with the most specific group rather than immediately committing to the most familiar pair. For this grid, the four problem-solving words are relatively easy to spot, but the remaining words require checking whether a tempting association—such as PICK with GUITAR—leaves a coherent group of four. When a possible group has been identified, test every remaining word against the category before submitting it.
Want more Connections puzzles?
Readers who prefer solving away from a screen can look for a New York Times Connections puzzle book. Simon & Schuster lists Connections: Find the Common Threads in 100+ Puzzles of Wit and Wordplay by The New York Times Games and Wyna Liu, with more than 100 puzzles. The publisher lists an October 27, 2026 publication date, so availability should be checked before publication; there is no evidence that the book contains archived puzzle #621.
A broader collection is Puzzle Mania!: Wordle, Connections, Spelling Bee, Minis and More! The cited retailer listing describes a 224-page hardcover, and NBC’s report says the collection includes Connections alongside other New York Times Games. This is a mixed-format option rather than a book dedicated exclusively to Connections.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Connections #621 used four different kinds of relationships: problem-solving terms, orchard verbs, Photoshop tools and right- or left-handed objects. The key traps were PICK with GUITAR, and ERASER or MAGIC WAND appearing to describe a way to fix something.
