The best new romance anime 2025 shortlist includes Honey Lemon Soda for school romance, I Have a Crush at Work for secret office dating, The Shiunji Family Children for provocative romantic comedy, and KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE for romance with mystery and science fiction. These are 2025 anime premieres, including manga adaptations.
Rather than claim one objective winner, compare the four by setting, relationship stage, tone, genre blend, content sensitivity, and whether you want a completed broadcast or a source-manga follow-up.
Key takeaways
- Honey Lemon Soda is the clearest pick for a gentle new school romance anime about confidence, friendship, and starting over.
- I Have a Crush at Work begins with mutual attraction and secret dating between coworkers rather than a long will-they-won’t-they setup.
- The Shiunji Family Children is a provocative romantic comedy whose premise includes suggestive dialogue and sexualized imagery.
- KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE is the standout choice for romance anime with mystery, science fiction, identity questions, and a completed 13-episode broadcast.
- These are newly premiered 2025 anime series, not necessarily new franchises: all four are adaptations of previously published manga.
How should you interpret “new romance anime 2025”?
“New romance anime 2025” most usefully means romance-led anime series that premiered during 2025, including adaptations of manga that existed before the anime. The four-title shortlist below is organized by setting, relationship stage, tone, genre blend, and content sensitivity—not by an unsupported claim that one show is objectively the best.
The shortlist covers four substantially different experiences: a school coming-of-age story, a workplace romance, a high-concept harem-style comedy, and a speculative mystery set in a dystopian urban environment. That distinction matters more than a universal ranking because the right choice depends on whether you want comfort, comedy, mature workplace dynamics, or an unsettling mystery.

The table is an editorial comparison of the cited premises and classifications, not a critical ranking. The official descriptions for Honey Lemon Soda, I Have a Crush at Work, The Shiunji Family Children, and KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE support the basic premises and 2025 anime details.
Why watch Honey Lemon Soda?
Honey Lemon Soda is the best starting point for viewers looking for a straightforward new school romance anime. Uka Ishimori enters Hachimitsu High School after middle school experiences marked by bullying and hurtful nicknames. Uka hopes that a new school will let her rebuild her social life, and she remembers Kai Miura, a cool, uninhibited boy whose earlier encouragement helped persuade her to attend.
The emotional hook is Uka’s personal recovery rather than a simple “popular boy meets shy girl” formula. Kai supports Uka as she tries to fit in with new classmates, so the romance develops alongside questions of confidence, belonging, and self-expression. Viewers who prefer gentle emotional progress and a youthful shōjo tone should put this title first.
The anime is an adaptation of Mayu Murata’s manga, not an original anime project. The cited Crunchyroll source credits Hiroshi Nishikiori as director, J.C.STAFF as the animation studio, Akiko Waba as series composer, Manami Tanaka as character designer, and Akira Kosemura as composer.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Is I Have a Crush at Work the best new workplace romance anime?
I Have a Crush at Work is the clearest choice among these new workplace romance anime because the central pair already likes each other when the story begins. Yui Mitsuya and Masugu Tateishi are coworkers who try to keep their relationship private so that their romance does not make the office awkward.
That setup separates the series from school romances built around discovering a first crush. The drama comes from secret dating, workplace boundaries, and the practical difficulty of being romantically involved with someone colleagues see every day. Kodansha’s official classification is romance, comedy, and slice of life, making the show a fit for viewers who want office routines and relationship comedy rather than a high-school setting.

According to the Kodansha/Crunchyroll adaptation announcement from 2024, the source manga had more than 1.1 million copies in print and digital circulation at the time of the announcement. That is a historical 2024 figure, not a current sales total or a measure of the anime’s popularity.
The adaptation is based on Akamaru Enomoto’s manga. Kodansha’s current series information lists 15 volumes and both print and digital formats; availability, prices, and retailer stock can change. If you prefer reading the source material, I Have a Crush at Work, Volume 1 is the relevant print-manga starting point—not an anime Blu-ray.

What kind of romance is The Shiunji Family Children?
The Shiunji Family Children is a provocative, high-concept romantic comedy rather than a conventional family-friendly sibling story. The Shiunji family’s seven children live in a mansion in Tokyo’s Setagaya ward. The central disruption arrives when their father reveals that Arata is not biologically related to his sisters, changing the emotional boundaries within the household.
The revelation creates the series’ romantic tension, but the premise is intentionally uncomfortable and suggestive. Crunchyroll classifies the anime as comedy and romance and includes suggestive dialogue and sexualized imagery in its content advisory. Readers who specifically enjoy harem-style romantic complications may find the setup appealing; viewers looking for an uncomplicated school romance should choose Honey Lemon Soda instead.
The anime premiered on April 8, 2025, according to Crunchyroll News. Ryoki Kamitsubo directs at Doga Kobo, Noboru Kimura handles series composition, and Miki Muto handles character design. The principal cast includes Yuichiro Umehara, Chika Anzai, Marika Kono, Rie Takahashi, Hana Hishikawa, Kana Ichinose, and Chiaki Kobayashi.
Crunchyroll’s displayed catalog lists Japanese and English audio, multiple subtitle languages, and 12 episodes. The catalog also makes clear why availability should be described cautiously: streaming rights and language options are regional and can change. Check the official Crunchyroll series page for the current offering in your territory.

For readers who want to continue with the source material, The Shiunji Family Children, Vol. 1 is the relevant English-language manga edition. The manga recommendation belongs after the content warning because the source material carries the same premise and is not a way to avoid the series’ suggestive elements.
Why is KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE the standout romance anime with mystery?
KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE is the strongest recommendation for anyone searching for romance anime with mystery. Reiko Kujirai and Hajime Kudo work as real-estate agents in Kowloon Walled City. Reiko’s feelings for Hajime deepen, but a photograph of Hajime’s former fiancée—whose appearance matches Reiko’s—forces Reiko to confront a more disturbing question: she has no memory of her own past.
The series combines ordinary workplace attraction with science-fiction identity questions, nostalgia, and an unusual urban setting. The romance is therefore only one part of the experience. Viewers who want atmosphere, mature themes, mystery, and a speculative premise should choose this title over the more conventional school and office options.

Yen Press describes the setting as “a dystopian townscape where the people are brimming with nostalgia, and where the past, present, and future converge.” The quotation comes from Yen Press’s publisher description, which also identifies the English-language source manga.
The anime began broadcasting in Japan on April 5, 2025. Yoshiaki Iwasaki directed at ARVO ANIMATION, Jin Tanaka handled series composition and scripts, Yuka Shibata designed the characters, and Yuji Kaneko served as art director, according to Crunchyroll’s premiere report.
Unlike the other entries, KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE has a confirmed completed broadcast in the supplied research: 13 episodes aired from April 5 through June 28, 2025, as reported by Crunchyroll News. Streaming coverage was reported for specified territories, so “completed broadcast” does not mean that every country has the same catalog access.
If the identity mystery and nostalgic setting appeal to you, start with the original Kowloon Generic Romance manga, Volume 1. Yen Press lists the paperback as 204 pages, ISBN 9781975345785, with a US list price of $15.00 and romance, drama, and slice-of-life classifications. Prices and stock can change, so treat the publisher’s Volume 1 listing as the edition reference rather than a guarantee of availability.
How do the four 2025 romance anime differ?
| If you want… | Choose… | Why |

| High-concept harem-style tension | The Shiunji Family Children | A family revelation changes the relationships inside a wealthy Tokyo household. |

Where can you watch new romance anime from 2025?
You can check Crunchyroll for selected titles, but no single worldwide availability claim is safe. Streaming licenses, episode catalogs, dubs, subtitles, and territories can change. Crunchyroll’s Spring 2025 lineup and individual catalog pages are the appropriate places to verify a current listing in your country.

For The Shiunji Family Children, the official catalog page displays Japanese and English audio, multiple subtitle options, and 12 episodes, subject to regional licensing. For KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE, Crunchyroll’s 2025 reporting confirms streaming coverage in specified territories, not universal availability. Use “watch on Crunchyroll where available” rather than assuming that a title is accessible everywhere.
Are these the only romance anime released in 2025?
No. These four titles are a researched shortlist, not a complete list of every romance anime that premiered in 2025. The shortlist is useful because each title represents a distinct reader need: school romance, workplace romance, provocative romantic comedy, or romance with mystery and science fiction.
The four titles are also not all original anime franchises. Honey Lemon Soda, I Have a Crush at Work, The Shiunji Family Children, and KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE are adaptations of manga. Readers who want to continue beyond the anime should check the relevant English-language publisher editions, while remembering that a manga’s publication status and an anime’s broadcast status are separate questions.

Choose Honey Lemon Soda if the main appeal is a hopeful school reset and a character rebuilding her confidence. Choose I Have a Crush at Work if you want coworkers, office routines, and a romance that starts with mutual attraction rather than prolonged uncertainty. Choose The Shiunji Family Children only if its suggestive, high-concept pseudo-sibling premise is within your comfort zone. Choose KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE if you want the most unusual setting, the strongest mystery element, and a completed 13-episode broadcast.
That mood-based approach is more reliable than calling one series the universal “best new romance anime from 2025.” The shortlist does not establish a critical ranking, and the available research does not provide comparable authoritative popularity or viewership figures for the four shows.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Start with Honey Lemon Soda for school romance, I Have a Crush at Work for secret office dating, The Shiunji Family Children for provocative romantic comedy, and KOWLOON GENERIC ROMANCE for romance anime with mystery. Streaming availability is regional, while manga prices and stock can change.
