MachineGames’ roughly 15-minute Indiana Jones and the Great Circle gameplay deep dive, released November 11, 2024, presents a first-person archaeological adventure where stealth, puzzles, investigation and improvisational combat matter as much as gunfire. The game launched on Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 9, 2024, with a PlayStation 5 release following in spring 2025.
The trailer and accompanying interviews explain how the studio adapted its first-person expertise to an Indiana Jones fantasy: you investigate ruins, photograph clues, use the whip as both tool and weapon, and choose when to fight, hide or explore.
What the deep-dive trailer actually shows
This is a gameplay demonstration rather than a cinematic teaser. It moves through the systems that define Indy’s journey and shows how they fit together.
Exploration and archaeological investigation
Indy examines environments, discovers artifacts, reads notes and photographs evidence. Clues feed into a broader mystery instead of serving only as decoration, making observation part of progression.

The whip as a multi-purpose tool
The whip enables traversal, pulls or disarms enemies, interacts with objects and helps solve environmental puzzles. Its usefulness is closer to a reusable adventure tool than a single combat ability.
Stealth, distraction and improvised fighting
Armed enemies are present, but the trailer repeatedly frames combat as one option. Indy can distract guards, move quietly, engage in hand-to-hand fights and turn nearby objects into improvised weapons. Guns exist in the world; this is not a nonviolent game, nor is it presented as a conventional shooter.
Puzzles, clues and optional help
Puzzle rooms and investigation sequences sit alongside action set pieces. MachineGames said players can choose lighter guidance, objective markers and puzzle assistance, while the camera can provide hints regardless of difficulty.

Set pieces and changing viewpoints
The game is predominantly first person, but selected cinematics and traversal moments switch to third person so players can see Indy’s physical performance. The deep dive also points to a globe-spanning route through the Himalayas, Vatican City, Egypt and Thailand’s Sukhothai, with scenes involving Gina, Emmerich Voss and Victor Gantz.

Why MachineGames chose first person
In the official Xbox interview, game director Jerk Gustafsson and production director John Jennings said first person was intended to make players feel that they inhabit Indiana Jones rather than follow him from behind. The perspective also matches MachineGames’ experience with first-person design and makes close-up interactions—examining an artifact, feeling out a mechanism or confronting an enemy—more immediate.
The trade-off is straightforward: first person increases immersion but limits how often players see the iconic character they came to play. Third-person moments preserve the visual fantasy when Indy’s body, stunts or expressions are important. Players who prefer a constant over-the-shoulder view may find the design less familiar, while fans of tactile exploration may welcome it.

More than a shooter
MachineGames’ reputation makes a shooter comparison inevitable, but the trailer supports a broader description. Indy is portrayed as clever, athletic, fallible and resourceful—not as a heavily armed super-soldier. Success often depends on noticing an alternate route, understanding a clue or creating an opening with the whip before resorting to force.
That does not remove action. Fights, chases and armed opponents remain part of the pulp-adventure structure. The distinction is that combat is one pillar among exploration, stealth, puzzle-solving and investigation.

Jens Andersson on pacing, assistance and performance
In GamesBeat’s interview, designer Jens Andersson described a game that deliberately rises and falls in intensity. Some passages are dialogue-heavy; others emphasize exploration or action. The preview account suggests that reading, examining spaces and taking detours are rewarded rather than treated as delays.

Andersson also discussed a target of 60 frames per second on Xbox. That was launch-era developer information, not a universal guarantee for every graphics mode, platform or later build. PC results depend on hardware, and frame-rate changes can affect motion comfort differently from person to person. The game’s lighter difficulty, markers, puzzle help and camera hints are intended to reduce friction without requiring every player to use them.
Gustafsson and Jennings on the Indiana Jones identity
The official Xbox interview says the Great Circle concept began with Todd Howard. An ancient relic is stolen from the college where Indy works, drawing him into a conspiracy about ancient sites aligned around the globe. Gina becomes a major partner, while Emmerich Voss serves as a principal antagonist and Wehrmacht colonel Victor Gantz is tied to the Giza excavation.
MachineGames said it studied the films—particularly Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade—and worked with Lucasfilm Games. Those are the developers’ descriptions of their authenticity process, not an independent guarantee that every player will judge the result identically. Troy Baker performs Indiana Jones; Harrison Ford does not voice the game.

Who is this game for?
- Indiana Jones fans: The locations, relic hunt and pulp rhythm are designed around the character’s archaeological identity.
- Exploration and puzzle players: Investigation, optional clues and environmental interaction are central rather than incidental.
- Players who enjoy immersive first person: The viewpoint emphasizes presence and hands-on discovery.
- Action fans seeking nonstop shooting: The game includes firefights, but its slower investigative stretches and stealth options may not match that expectation.
- Players sensitive to first-person motion: Comfort can vary by person, display and performance mode; the launch-era 60fps discussion should not be read as a universal medical or technical solution.

Bottom line
The deep dive’s important promise is not simply that Indiana Jones can fight in first person. It is that MachineGames is trying to make players feel like Indy through curiosity, imperfect improvisation and discovery. If that combination appeals to you, the trailer points to a substantial archaeological adventure; if you want a constant third-person action spectacle or an uninterrupted shooter, its deliberate pacing and first-person focus may be a less obvious fit.
