Mayci Neeley’s story includes sexual assault, an unplanned pregnancy and the death of her former boyfriend, Arik Mack, who is reported as the father of her son. She is a cast member of Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, but the edited series is not a complete account of her past. Neeley’s memoir, Told You So, offers a fuller first-person telling of those earlier events.
Who is Mayci Neeley?
Neeley is one of the Utah-based social-media personalities featured in Hulu’s reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The show follows women associated with the Mormon social-media community known as #MomTok; its group and family storylines provide a television context, not a comprehensive biography of every cast member. Apple TV’s series listing names Neeley in the cast, while TIME’s 2024 interview discussed the world the series brings to viewers.
Speaking to TIME about the show’s possible resonance, Neeley said: “Whether they’re Mormon and they think, ‘maybe I’m not enough to be in the church because I drink,’ hopefully people can relate to us and feel like they’re enough, they’re worthy, or maybe be inspired.” That comment describes her hopes for viewers; it is not a statement specifically about the events in her memoir.
What happened in Neeley’s earlier life?
In coverage of Told You So, Neeley’s earlier life is described as including sexual assault, an unplanned pregnancy and the sudden death of her college boyfriend, Arik Mack. Reporting identifies Mack as the father of her son and connects his death to a car crash. These are painful personal events, and the available accounts should be understood as Neeley’s history as presented in her memoir and attributed coverage—not expanded with assumptions about private motives or details that those sources do not establish.

NPR’s 2025 account of the memoir and E! News’ coverage of Mack’s death provide context for the story. The loss is often described in coverage as the death of her son’s father; avoiding more sensational language keeps the focus on the human event rather than dramatizing it.
How does the memoir differ from the reality series?
Told You So is Neeley’s first-person account of earlier experiences, including the assault, pregnancy and Mack’s death. The television series, by contrast, is an edited reality program centered on a group of cast members and their present-day relationships and family storylines. A memoir and a reality series have different scopes and formats, so the show’s portrayal should not be treated as a complete record of Neeley’s life.

Us Weekly reported in 2025 that Neeley said a storyline about this history was cut from the show. An omission from an edited series does not by itself disprove or establish the events; it means the television version does not cover the same ground as the memoir. Readers looking for her fuller account should turn to Told You So, rather than expecting the series to supply every part of her personal history.
