Yes. Tubi is free to watch: Tubi says it has no subscription fee and does not require a credit card. In exchange, you watch advertisements. You also need an internet connection and a compatible device, and the catalog and privacy trade-offs may matter to you. Tubi’s official service page describes it as free and ad-supported.
What does “free” mean on Tubi?
There is no standard monthly subscription charge for Tubi, and Tubi says its content is free to watch rather than rented or purchased title by title. Its help center describes the service as a legal, ad-supported way to stream. That makes the direct cost of ordinary Tubi viewing $0, according to Tubi’s explanation of the service.
That answer applies to Tubi itself. It does not cover your broadband or mobile plan, a device you might buy, or the time spent watching commercials. Tubi does not currently offer an ad-free option, according to its advertising FAQ.

Tubi uses an ad-supported streaming model: advertisements help fund programming, so viewers can watch without a subscription. Tubi says it runs fewer ad minutes than traditional broadcast or cable television, but it does not publish a single ad schedule that applies to every viewer. Breaks can vary by program, location, device, and available advertising. There is no reliable universal number of ads or fixed interval to expect.

In practical terms, Tubi is closer to free, ad-supported television than to a paid streamer’s commercial-free plan. If interruptions are a deal-breaker, Tubi says it does not have an ad-free upgrade.

For a mobile plan with a data cap, streaming can use data and potentially contribute to overage charges. Those are costs from your provider, not a Tubi viewing fee.
Do you need an account or credit card?
Account
Tubi registration is free. An account can help keep a watchlist and viewing progress synchronized across devices. Browsing or playback without an account may be available in some contexts, but account prompts and guest access can differ by device, region, app version, and feature. Tubi’s welcome page describes registration and its benefits; it does not establish identical guest access everywhere.

Credit card
Tubi says a credit card is not required for its service. A separate device or app store may ask you to verify payment information while setting up an account or downloading an app. Tubi’s device setup guidance distinguishes that platform request from a Tubi charge. Check that you are installing the official Tubi app and have not selected a separate paid service.
What can you watch?
Tubi offers movies, television programs, live programming, and Tubi-produced content. Its catalog includes studio and independent programming; Tubi’s corporate site names partners including MGM, Lionsgate, and Paramount. The company describes its service at Tubi and Tubi Corporate.
A broad catalog does not guarantee a particular title will be available where you live or remain available indefinitely. Streaming rights change, and the selection varies by country. Tubi also offers live channels, but the lineup can differ by market and change over time; it is not automatically a substitute for local broadcast channels, sports packages, or cable DVR service.

Is Tubi legal and safe to use?
Tubi says it is a legal service that licenses content from studios and other partners. To reduce the risk of misleading downloads or redirects, use Tubi’s official website or find its app in your device’s official app store. Tubi says viewers do not need a VPN to use the service; availability is regional, so a title or feature may simply not be offered in your location.

Legitimate does not mean data-free. Tubi’s privacy policy, effective July 1, 2026, describes collecting information about interactions with its services, including internet or network activity, and using information to operate the service and deliver relevant advertising. It also describes disclosures involving advertising technology companies, advertisers, affiliates, and service providers. That policy is the place to review how Tubi describes its practices; avoid assuming that “free” means no data is collected.
Where can you watch Tubi?
Tubi lists availability through web browsers, Android and Apple mobile devices, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, game consoles, and selected smart-TV and cable-provider platforms. Its help center also lists devices such as LG, Vizio, Hisense, Chromecast, and TiVo. Support can change, so consult Tubi’s current device guidance before buying hardware. Tubi identifies service coverage in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Latin America, the United Kingdom, and Australia, but that does not mean every title or feature is available in each market; see Tubi Corporate.

How to start watching
On a computer
- Open Tubi’s official website.
- Browse or search for a movie, show, or live channel.
- Select it and start playback; register only if you want account features or the experience prompts you to do so.
On a TV, streaming device, or phone
- Open the device’s official app store and search for “Tubi.”
- Confirm you have selected the official Tubi app, then install it.
- Open the app, register or sign in if desired or prompted, and choose a title or live channel.
Tubi’s official mobile listings are in the Apple App Store and Google Play. App availability depends on your device and region.

Tubi is most useful if you want to avoid a monthly streaming bill, do not mind commercial breaks, and are flexible about what to watch. It can also be a way to explore older, niche, independent, or rotating catalog titles. Tubi’s corporate site reports more than 100 million monthly active users; that is a company-reported figure, not an independently verified audience count.
It may be a poor match if you need ad-free viewing, offline downloads, a particular new release, or guaranteed access to a specific show. Catalog availability and rotation mean it is sensible to search for a title before planning to watch it. If a particular movie is the priority, compare legal services in your country rather than assuming it will be on Tubi.

Free alternatives and when to choose them
Pluto TV is another free ad-supported service, especially associated with scheduled live channels as well as on-demand viewing. Its channel lineup and catalog vary by region. Library streaming services can be another option if your library participates and you have an eligible card; access rules and borrowing limits depend on the service. A paid streamer may suit viewers who value newer originals, more predictable access, or an ad-free plan, but it no longer meets a strict $0-per-month goal.
Fixing common Tubi problems
A title does not appear
- It may have left the catalog or may not be licensed in your country.
- Check that you are browsing the relevant section and using the current app.
- A search result elsewhere does not prove the title is currently available on Tubi.
Playback is poor or interrupted
- Check your internet connection.
- Close and reopen the app, then restart the device if needed.
- Update the Tubi app.
- Try Tubi on another supported device or in a browser to narrow down whether the problem is device-specific.
- If an account feature is malfunctioning, sign out and back in; for unresolved issues, use the official Tubi Help Center.
A suspicious pop-up appears
Close it and return to Tubi’s official site or the device’s official app store. Do not enter payment details into a page reached through an unexpected redirect.
