Yes—Pocket FM is free to download and free to start using, but it is not an entirely free audio service. You can listen to free episodes, while some later episodes and premium features may require coins, a wait, or another paid option. Ads and offers can also be part of the experience. The free allowance and available payment choices vary by story, country, platform, and account.
What “free” means on Pocket FM
Pocket FM is available at no download cost from the U.S. Apple App Store and Google Play. Both stores identify in-app purchases; Google Play also labels the app as containing ads. Pocket FM’s listings describe free episodes, with payment options for content beyond the free portion.
So there are three useful answers: free to install: yes; free to begin listening: yes; guaranteed free access to every episode of every story: no. Pocket FM does not publish one universal free-episode count that applies to every title.

How coins, waits, and free offers work
Coins are Pocket FM’s in-app currency. They can unlock episodes or chapters that are otherwise locked, and may provide earlier access to more of a story. Pocket FM says users can buy coins or earn promotional coins through eligible activities such as watching videos and completing tasks. Those opportunities may not appear for every user or in every country.

When you reach a locked episode, the app may offer a coin unlock, a wait timer, an option to earn coins through an ad or task, or a paid offer. The available choices and their terms can differ. Earning some coins for free does not mean unlimited listening: it may take time, and offers can change.
Pocket FM is also not necessarily ad-free at no cost. Google Play marks it as containing ads, and Pocket FM promotes a paid no-ads option. That does not mean every episode is interrupted in the same way; ad placement and frequency can vary.

How much does Pocket FM cost in the U.S.?
The U.S. iOS App Store listing shows coin purchase price points of $0.99, $1.99, $4.99, $9.99, and $19.99. These are listed pack prices, not a price for finishing a particular story. The sources do not establish a universal conversion between a coin pack and a fixed number of episodes; coin requirements can vary.

Does Pocket FM require a subscription?
No universal subscription requirement is established. Pocket FM’s store descriptions present free episodes and optional payments, while its terms describe subscriptions and other payment models as possibilities. The U.S. App Store listing reviewed here shows coin-pack prices but does not clearly display a U.S. subscription price.
A different Apple storefront lists a “Coins Monthly Subscription” at US$14.99, but that is not evidence that the same offer is available in the United States. Check the offer shown in your own app and storefront rather than assuming another country’s price or subscription applies to you.

How to check what a story will cost you
- Install Pocket FM from the official App Store or Google Play listing and open the story you want to hear.
- Play its available free episodes. Do not assume another story has the same free allowance.
- At a locked episode, read the options shown—such as waiting, unlocking with coins, earning coins, or a premium offer—before choosing.
- Check the app’s Store or My Store area for current coin offers. Pocket FM’s FAQ describes earning coins through videos and tasks, but availability can vary.
- Before confirming a purchase, verify the price, currency, and whether it recurs. If a charge appears unexpectedly, review your Apple or Google purchase history and use the relevant store’s purchase-support process where applicable.
Can you download episodes for free listening offline?
Pocket FM promotes downloads and offline listening, but offline playback and free access are separate questions. A locked or paid episode may need to be unlocked before it can be downloaded. Check the status of the specific episode in the app; the ability to listen offline does not make paid content free.
Is Pocket FM worth paying for?
It may suit listeners who specifically want Pocket FM’s serialized fiction and are comfortable waiting, watching ads, or spending coins for faster access. It may be a poor fit if you expect the whole catalog to be free, dislike timers and in-app currency, or want a predictable price for a complete story. The practical trade-off is lower upfront cost with limits or delays versus faster access that can make the final cost of a long series hard to predict.

If predictable spending matters, inspect the unlock options before getting deep into a story. A coin pack’s displayed price alone does not tell you how much it will cost to complete that series.
