What did Ferguson contribute to the performance?
Ferguson’s role was more than appearing in a scene while another singer’s voice played. She said she listened to Allred’s intonation and breathing, then sang along with playback during each filmed take so her acting and Allred’s vocal would work together. Playbill’s 2017 interview describes that collaboration. Allred later said she worked with Ferguson to make the lip-sync seamless, including emulating Ferguson’s British accent and helping shape the stage performance (Atwood Magazine, 2020).
Who wrote the song?
“Never Enough” was written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul for The Greatest Showman. That songwriting credit is separate from Allred’s role as the singer on the recorded vocal and Ferguson’s on-screen portrayal of Lind.
