Season 23 gives him dangerous, emotionally charged storylines that can look like exit clues, but CBS’s Season 23 material does not announce a departure. And as of October 8, 2026, CBS had announced a Torres-centered Season 24 episode, “Sleeping Dogs,” scheduled for October 20. That points to more story for the character—not a guarantee about Wilmer Valderrama’s long-term future.
Why viewers may read Season 23 as an exit setup
Season 23 puts Torres in situations with real dramatic weight: a case takes a “terrifying turn” for him, he reconnects with a former colleague under extraordinary circumstances, and the finale raises questions of legacy and loyalty. Those ingredients can support an exit theory. They do not, by themselves, establish that the character—or Valderrama—is leaving.

“The Sound and the Fury” puts Torres in danger
CBS’s episode guide says the October 28, 2025 episode “The Sound and the Fury” links a petty officer’s death to a blackmail investigation and takes “a terrifying turn for Torres.” That is the clearest Season 23 danger clue in the official descriptions, but CBS does not frame it as a departure. “Her” brings Bishop back into his orbit
In the March 3, 2026 episode “Her,” Eleanor Bishop turns to Torres for help after she is designated a wanted cyber-terrorist. The synopsis establishes that he is involved in a high-stakes case and remains connected to a figure from the team’s past; it does not say he is preparing to leave.

The finale makes legacy and loyalty central
“Sons and Daughters,” the May 12, 2026 Season 23 finale, follows a new explosion connected to a deadly coffee-shop bombing. CBS says the case forces the team to confront legacy and loyalty. The synopsis does not identify Torres as departing or describe a goodbye. The Season 23 guide lists 20 episodes, from “Prodigal Son, Part 1” on October 14, 2025, through that finale. What Wilmer Valderrama said about the finale
In a CBS listing dated April 29, 2026, the network identified the finale as Valderrama’s 200th NCIS episode. Discussing the story, he described “a lot of danger” and said, “we’re setting a crazy tone for next season.” Those are previews of suspense and a next-season setup, not an announcement that he is leaving. Season 24 has a Torres story scheduled
On September 28, 2026, Paramount Press Express announced “Sleeping Dogs,” a Season 24 episode scheduled for October 20, 2026. In its description, Torres’s retired undercover identity is used to commit murders, leading him to work with his former handler Walt Keller, played by Mike O’Malley. The episode description says Torres must “confront a darker version of himself that he thought he’d left behind.” The episode had not aired as of October 8, 2026, so this confirms an announced storyline—not what happens in it or how long Valderrama will remain on the series. Paramount Press Express’s Season 24 announcement
CBS’s series page identifies Torres as an undercover specialist on the team and lists the Season 24 premiere on October 6, 2026. The official material therefore shows that the show is continuing to build stories around him, while saying nothing definitive about a future exit date.

What the evidence can—and cannot—tell us
It helps to separate two different questions: what the story is doing to Torres on screen, and whether anyone has confirmed an off-screen cast departure. The danger, undercover history and high-stakes cases support the first question. The cited CBS and Paramount announcements do not establish the second. A character facing danger is not proof that the actor is leaving, and a planned Season 24 episode is not proof of a long-term contract or future beyond the announced material.
As of October 8, 2026, the best-supported reading is that “NCIS is quietly writing Nick Torres’ exit” is a fan theory, not confirmed news. The available official announcements establish more Torres-focused story material in Season 24; they do not settle whether Valderrama or CBS has made a later departure plan public.
