Netflix removed its remaining interactive specials in 2025, but no verified official announcement proves that the film can never return. “Gone from Netflix’s original interactive catalog” is confirmed; “gone forever” is not.
What happened to Bandersnatch?
Bandersnatch is Netflix’s 2018 interactive Black Mirror film. Netflix’s official listing describes a 1984 programmer adapting a dark fantasy novel into a video game, with viewers making decisions that alter the story. The cast includes Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter and Craig Parkinson. Netflix’s title page remains online, but an accessible page does not necessarily mean playback is available.
Specialist reporting said Netflix removed Bandersnatch and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend on May 12, 2025, ending the service’s remaining interactive specials. That date was reported as a global departure, not a guarantee that every country’s catalog changed at exactly the same time.
For the United States, JustWatch currently lists the film as unavailable and records its last Netflix availability as August 2025. The difference from the May date may reflect regional catalogs, notice timing or tracking methods. It is safer to treat both as catalog-specific observations than to force one universal removal date.

Is it still on Netflix in your country?
Do not infer worldwide availability from the U.S. result. Netflix says catalogs vary by country and can also be affected by licensing, profile settings and VPN use. A title page can remain indexed after the playable version has disappeared. See Netflix’s availability guidance.
- Sign in to Netflix and search for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.
- Look for a working Play control, not only a description, trailer or bookmark option.
- Open the title’s details and check for a “Last day to watch on Netflix” notice if one appears. Netflix says these notices generally appear during the final month before removal; its guidance is at this help page.
- Repeat the check without a VPN and with a profile whose maturity and language settings should show the title.
Why did Netflix remove it?
Netflix’s official explanation for departing films and shows is that licensing agreements expire or are not renewed. Its general policy is explained at Why do TV shows and movies leave Netflix?

- Polish Release, cover may contain Polish text/markings. The disk DOES NOT have English audio and subtitles.
Reporting on the 2025 removal adds a technology and strategy explanation: Netflix was moving away from the interactive-story system used by its older specials while emphasizing games. That explains why Bandersnatch disappeared alongside the last comparable title, but it is not the same as a formal Netflix statement that a particular license alone caused the removal.
Why losing the interactive version matters
Bandersnatch is not simply a conventional film with optional menus. Its defining experience depends on branching choices, saved progress and an interface that presents decisions at specific moments. A standard video file, rental or purchase would not automatically reproduce that system.

- Polish Release, cover may contain Polish text/markings. The disk has English audio.
- Different choices lead to different scenes and endings.
- Progress can determine which branches become available later.
- The original experience was designed for Netflix-compatible remotes, controllers, keyboards, touchscreens and other supported inputs.
- Claims about a “five-hour film” generally describe the cumulative length of possible paths, not one five-hour linear cut.
Preserving the work therefore means preserving its decision logic and input system, not only its recorded footage.
Could Bandersnatch come back?
A July 2025 What’s on Netflix report said Netflix intended to bring Bandersnatch and Kimmy vs. the Reverend back as emulated versions inside the Games tab. The report supplied no firm release date, and the available evidence does not verify that the relaunch occurred.

Netflix’s official 2025 Black Mirror gaming announcement was for Thronglets, a mobile game connected to the “Plaything” episode. It did not announce a Bandersnatch rerelease. Until Netflix updates its listing or makes a direct announcement, a Games-tab return remains possible but unconfirmed.

The available information does not establish a current legal commercial stream, rental, purchase, Blu-ray release or official downloadable edition. Do not assume that an ordinary movie copy would preserve the branching experience, and avoid piracy, ripped files, unofficial archives, VPN circumvention and questionable “interactive player” downloads.

You can use a reputable tracker such as JustWatch to monitor availability or set a notification where offered. That is a monitoring option, not proof that the film is currently watchable. If Netflix restores it, the official Netflix listing or a Netflix announcement is the reliable confirmation.
What Thronglets is—and is not
Thronglets is an official Netflix game set in the broader Black Mirror universe. It is not the Bandersnatch film, a rerelease of its branching story or a replacement for its interactive narrative. A Netflix subscription may make sense for the wider catalog and games, but changing plans or subscribing solely to watch Bandersnatch will not restore it while U.S. availability remains unavailable.
The verdict
Bandersnatch has left Netflix’s original interactive-special lineup and is currently unavailable in the United States. Netflix’s infrastructure change and ordinary licensing rules explain the removal, while a reported emulated return has never been officially confirmed. The accurate answer to “Is it leaving for good?” is therefore: the original Netflix version is gone for now, but its permanent future remains unsettled.
