Apple released iOS 26.4 on March 24, 2026. Its Apple Music update is live, but it is not a complete rebuild of the Music app: album and playlist pages receive a prominent artwork-driven refresh, alongside Playlist Playground, Concerts Near You, an Ambient Music widget and faster multi-playlist additions. Availability varies by country, language, age, subscription and beta status.
What changed in Apple Music with iOS 26.4?
iOS 26.4 delivers a focused Apple Music refresh rather than replacing every screen or changing the catalog, audio quality or ownership of your playlists. The most visible change appears when you open an individual album or playlist. Several utility features make discovery and library organization quicker.

The wider Liquid Glass redesign belongs to iOS 26, Apple’s system-wide update. Apple introduced that design language, AutoMix and lyrics translation before iOS 26.4. Read Apple’s overview of the broader release at Apple’s iOS 26 announcement.
The new album and playlist presentation
Album and playlist artwork now occupies a larger, more immersive portion of the page. Colors drawn from the artwork influence the background and surrounding controls, while the track list and playback actions sit within a more integrated visual layout.

- Use it for purchases at any Apple Store location, on the Apple Store app, apple.com, the App Store, iTunes, Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple News+, Apple Books, Apple Arcade, iCloud+, Fitness+, Apple One, and other Apple properties in US only
- The effect is clearest on individual album and playlist pages.
- Artwork becomes the visual focus instead of a small cover above a mostly plain list.
- Your existing library, playlist ownership and saved tracks remain unchanged.
- It is a presentation change, not evidence of a larger catalog or new subscription benefits.
If Music looks unchanged, open an album or playlist rather than Home, Search or Now Playing. Local or synced files can also present differently from Apple Music catalog pages. Accessibility settings such as increased contrast may alter the appearance; reports of that behavior are user observations, not an Apple-confirmed defect.
Playlist Playground creates a starting playlist from a prompt
Playlist Playground lets you describe the music you want in ordinary language—for example, “morning coffee music,” a workout mood, a genre combination or a decade-specific theme. Apple’s iPhone guide says it returns 25 suggested tracks and a custom title. You can then add, reorder or remove songs before saving the playlist.
Apple labels Playlist Playground beta and limits it to the United States, English and Apple Music subscribers aged 13 or older. Apple Music’s availability and features can also vary by country or region. The restrictions are listed in Apple’s support documentation.
How to use Playlist Playground
- Open Music.
- Tap Library.
- Tap the New Playlist button.
- Choose Playlist Playground.
- Describe the mood, activity, theme or style you want.
- Review the 25 suggested tracks.
- Add, reorder or remove songs, then save the playlist.
The complete creation workflow is documented in Apple’s iPhone user guide. Treat the generated result as a draft: prompts that include mood, genre, era, activity or reference artists usually give you more control than an unqualified request such as “chill” or “party.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf Playlist Playground is missing
- Confirm the iPhone is running iOS 26.4 or later.
- Check that the Apple Account region is the United States.
- Use English for the relevant Music or system language.
- Verify that an Apple Music subscription is active.
- Check the account holder’s age eligibility.
- Look under Library → New Playlist, not only on the Music home screen.
- Remember that beta availability and controls can change.
If it remains unavailable, use the ordinary New Playlist workflow. Apple’s published material confirms the region, language, age, subscription and beta limits, but does not provide a complete current device or Apple Intelligence eligibility matrix, so do not assume that every iPhone compatible with iOS 26.4 will receive the beta.
Concerts Near You adds local artist discovery
Concerts Near You surfaces upcoming tour dates associated with artists and locations. Apple describes it as a way to find upcoming tour dates in your area on its Apple Music product page.

Listings depend on location, artist information and the event data available to Apple Music. No result does not prove that an artist has no shows, and the feature is not a universal ticketing marketplace or a guarantee that every local event will appear. Open an artist page or related artist content when available to see dates.
Ambient Music widget for quick background listening
iOS 26.4 adds an Ambient Music widget or related shortcut for starting background listening more quickly. It is suited to winding down, sleep, focus, productivity and relaxation without first assembling a playlist.

If it appears in your widget gallery, add it through the normal iPhone widget-adding flow; Apple’s currently available documentation does not establish a single definitive placement path.
Add songs to several playlists in one operation
The update also makes it possible to select a song or group of songs and add them to multiple playlists without repeating the operation for each destination. That is useful for maintaining workout, mood, seasonal or collaborative lists.
The exact menu label and whether the control appears identically for individual songs, albums and playlist selections can vary with the device interface. Look for the multi-playlist option after selecting the tracks rather than relying on a fixed menu path.
Do not confuse these with iOS 26.4
AutoMix, which transitions between songs with beat matching and time stretching, lyrics translation and the overall Liquid Glass interface were introduced as part of iOS 26. They are not new 26.4 launches. Apple describes those features in its iOS 26 announcement.

Apple Music subscribers who browse albums and playlists
You get the clearest visual change, plus access to subscriber features such as Playlist Playground where the beta is available.
Playlist-heavy listeners
Prompt-generated drafts and multi-playlist additions reduce repetitive library work, although generated selections still need review.
Listeners who follow artists
Concerts Near You adds a route from listening to nearby tour discovery, subject to event-data coverage.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →People who mostly use Siri, CarPlay or HomePod
You may notice little because the redesign is concentrated on album and playlist browsing. The same is true for people who rarely open those pages.
Listeners outside the United States or using another language
The artwork refresh can still appear after updating, but Playlist Playground is restricted to U.S. users in English and may not be available to you.

People using only local or purchased music
The update does not turn a local library into an Apple Music subscription, and subscriber-only tools remain unavailable without a plan. Apple Music supports iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, Apple TV 4K, HomePod, CarPlay, Android, Windows and other platforms, but the iOS 26.4 interface changes require a compatible iPhone running iOS 26.4.
Is the redesign worth updating for?
For an Apple Music subscriber who browses visual album pages, builds several playlists or wants prompt-based discovery, iOS 26.4 is a meaningful quality-of-life update. The benefit is smaller if you mainly use voice commands, local files or another playback device. Users who prefer a minimal list interface may find the artwork-heavy pages busier, while Playlist Playground’s beta and regional limits make it an optional extra rather than a universal reason to subscribe.
An Apple Music plan is required for streaming, downloads, personalized recommendations and related subscriber features. Apple’s current plan options and device coverage are listed at apple.com/apple-music; availability and pricing can vary by country and promotion.
Common problems and practical fixes
“I updated, but Music looks the same”
- Verify that the phone is actually on iOS 26.4.
- Open an individual Apple Music album or playlist to see the main visual treatment.
- Check whether you are viewing a local or synced item.
- Consider whether contrast or other accessibility settings are changing the appearance.
- Do not expect every Music screen to have been redesigned.
“Playlist Playground made a poor playlist”
Rewrite the prompt with a specific mood, activity, genre, era or artist reference. Then remove unsuitable tracks and add your own; the feature is designed as a starting point, not a promise of a finished personal mix.
“Concerts Near You shows nothing”
Check the artist and location again. Incomplete event coverage, missing artist metadata or regional availability can hide shows that exist elsewhere.
