The 2025 Indy 500 aired live on FOX, not Peacock. U.S. viewers without cable could watch through a receivable local FOX affiliate with an antenna or through a live-TV streaming service carrying that local station. The race took place on May 25, 2025, so this is now a historical viewing and replay guide rather than a live countdown.
The 2025 Indianapolis 500 aired live in the United States on FOX, not Peacock. Viewers without cable could watch on a local FOX affiliate with an over-the-air antenna, or use a live-TV streaming service that carried their local FOX station. FOX’s 2025 viewing guide identified YouTube TV, Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, and fuboTV as cable-free options, subject to local-channel availability.
The race is now over: the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 took place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 25, 2025. FOX listed the green flag for 12:45 p.m. Eastern Time. Álex Palou won the race, earning his first Indianapolis 500 victory.
Quick answer: where the 2025 Indy 500 was available
| Option | What it required | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Local FOX with an antenna | A receivable local FOX broadcast signal and an HDTV antenna | Reception depends on location; it does not include FS1, FS2, or every practice and qualifying program |
| Live-TV streaming service | A service carrying the viewer’s local FOX affiliate | Local-channel lineups, prices, trials, and device support vary and change |
| FOX digital access | Authorized FOX access, potentially involving a participating TV provider | The exact standalone-versus-authenticated streaming route for the 2025 race should not be assumed |
| INDYCAR LIVE in the United States | An INDYCAR LIVE subscription or account | The official 2025 territory information listed U.S. coverage with a 24-hour delay, not same-day live coverage |
Why older guides said Peacock
Older search results recommending Peacock were referring to the previous U.S. broadcast arrangement. NBC Sports’ 2024 announcement listed the Indianapolis 500 on NBC, Peacock, and Universo. That arrangement did not describe the 2025 U.S. race destination.

FOX and INDYCAR announced a new media-rights agreement beginning with the 2025 season. Under that arrangement, FOX became the U.S. home of INDYCAR and the Indianapolis 500. Therefore, an ordinary Peacock subscription was not the primary live U.S. route for the 2025 race.
Option 1: Watch local FOX with an antenna
For a viewer who could receive a local FOX affiliate over the air, an antenna was the simplest no-cable solution. Because the race aired on the FOX broadcast network, an antenna could provide the live broadcast without a cable subscription or paid live-TV streaming plan.
If your home receives local FOX over the air, an indoor HDTV antenna may be the least expensive way to watch a broadcast-network race without cable. Check whether your address can receive the relevant FOX affiliate before buying.
What affects antenna reception?
- Distance from the local broadcast transmitter
- Terrain and obstructions between your home and the transmitter
- Building materials, including concrete and metal
- Whether the antenna is placed near a window or higher in the building
- The strength and direction of signals in your local market
An antenna is not a guaranteed solution in every ZIP code. It also does not provide FS1 or FS2, and it does not automatically include practice, qualifying, or other digital-event programming. Its purpose here was receiving the local FOX broadcast of the race.

Option 2: Use a live-TV streaming service with local FOX
Viewers who did not have cable could use a live-TV streaming service, but the key requirement was—and remains—carriage of the viewer’s local FOX affiliate. A service’s national availability did not guarantee that every local FOX station was included.
| Service named in FOX’s 2025 viewing guide | What to verify | Do not assume |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube TV | Whether local FOX was available at the viewing address, plus current price, trial terms, and supported devices | That historical 2025 pricing or promotions still apply |
| Sling TV | Whether the local FOX affiliate was available in the market and which plan included it | That FOX was available nationwide through every Sling plan |
| Hulu + Live TV | Local FOX carriage and the current Hulu + Live TV plan terms | That a standard on-demand Hulu subscription included live FOX |
| fuboTV | Current local FOX availability, plan, trial terms, and device support | That the lineup and promotional offer were identical in every market |
Before starting a subscription, enter your ZIP code on the provider’s current channel-availability page and confirm that the listing says FOX or names your local FOX station. Also check the current monthly price, whether a trial is offered, supported television and mobile devices, and cancellation terms. These details are volatile and should not be reconstructed from the 2025 event.
Option 3: Check authorized FOX digital viewing
FOX held the 2025 rights and promoted FOX digital products in its viewing information. However, the available historical material does not conclusively establish whether viewers could buy a standalone, unauthenticated direct stream specifically for the 2025 Indianapolis 500, or whether FOX Sports access required a login from a participating television provider.
The safe instruction is to check FOX’s currently authorized digital viewing options rather than assuming that creating a free FOX Sports account—or subscribing to an unrelated FOX product—automatically supplied the live race. For a historical 2025 replay, availability also needs to be verified separately.

Why INDYCAR LIVE was not the U.S. live-race answer
INDYCAR LIVE can appear to be an obvious alternative when searching for an online IndyCar stream. It was not the same-day live U.S. solution for the 2025 Indianapolis 500, however. INDYCAR’s 2025 over-the-top territory information listed the United States with a 24-hour delay for practice, qualifying, and race coverage on INDYCAR LIVE.
That delay may differ from the rights available in other countries. International viewers should check the rights and territory rules for their own location. U.S. viewers seeking the live May 25 broadcast needed local FOX, a qualifying live-TV service carrying local FOX, or another authorized FOX route—not INDYCAR LIVE’s delayed U.S. feed.
Can you still watch the 2025 race online?
The 2025 event has finished, so this is no longer a live-race guide. A replay may or may not remain available through FOX, an authorized provider, an official INDYCAR product, or another licensed outlet. Replay libraries, authentication requirements, and subscription terms change over time; confirm availability directly before paying for a service.

What to do for a future Indy 500
- Confirm the U.S. rights holder for that specific year. Do not assume the 2025 FOX arrangement or any older Peacock information continues unchanged.
- Check whether your address receives a local FOX affiliate over the air.
- If using streaming, verify local FOX carriage by ZIP code before subscribing.
- Confirm the race date, green-flag time, blackout rules, supported devices, and authentication requirements.
- Check whether practice and qualifying are on FOX, FS1, FS2, a streaming service, or a delayed international product; those rights may differ from the race broadcast.
Bottom line
For the 2025 U.S. Indy 500, the accurate cord-cutting answer was FOX, not Peacock. The least expensive legal route for many eligible households was a local FOX signal received with an antenna. The flexible paid route was a live-TV streaming service—YouTube TV, Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, or fuboTV—provided that service carried the viewer’s local FOX affiliate. INDYCAR LIVE was not a same-day live U.S. alternative because its 2025 U.S. listing specified a 24-hour delay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was the 2025 Indy 500 on Peacock?
No—not as the primary live U.S. distribution route. Peacock was part of NBC’s 2024 Indianapolis 500 coverage. FOX became the U.S. rights holder for INDYCAR and the Indianapolis 500 beginning with the 2025 season.
Could I watch the 2025 Indy 500 without cable?
Yes. The 2025 race was available through a local FOX affiliate received with an antenna, where reception permitted, or through a live-TV streaming service carrying the viewer’s local FOX station.
Did INDYCAR LIVE show the 2025 Indy 500 live in the United States?
The official 2025 territory information listed U.S. practice, qualifying, and race coverage on INDYCAR LIVE with a 24-hour delay. It was therefore not the same-day live U.S. race option.

Álex Palou won the 109th Indianapolis 500 on May 25, 2025. It was his first Indianapolis 500 victory on the oval.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The 2025 Indy 500 aired live on FOX on May 25, 2025—not Peacock. U.S. viewers without cable could use an antenna for a receivable local FOX signal or a live-TV streaming service carrying their local FOX affiliate. INDYCAR LIVE offered the U.S. event with a 24-hour delay rather than live coverage.
